Item type:Publication, Time Distortion in Bierce's "One of the Missing" and Uroshevic's "Ракописот од Китаб-Ан" ("The Manuscript from Kitab-An")(Purdue University (bepress), 2015-12-01)In her article "Time Distortion in Bierce's 'One of the Missing' and Uroshevic's 'Ракописот од Китаб-Ан' ('The Manuscript from Kitab-An')" Kalina Maleska examines the relationship between literature and astronomy in the context of time. The two stories share several common elements: they explore the possible manipulations of time in unexpected and extraordinary ways and come close to certain scientific explorations of time. For "One of the Missing," Albert Einstein's theory of relativity provides an interesting foundation for understanding Bierce's treatment of time. For The Manuscript of Kitab-An, the speculations of time travel starting from the Einstein-Rosen concept of the black hole as a bridge to a parallel universe proves useful in interpreting the treatment of time in this story. Although the concept of time has often been the subject of critical analysis in twentieth-century literature in general, there has been only scarce research on the relation between scientific discussions of time and its literary representations. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings

Имено, постои и дескриптивен (или немаркиран) однос кон родовите улоги, но многу почесто од претходно постои поизразена субверзија на структурите што традиционално определувале родови норми и улоги. Item type:Publication, AMBIGUOUS POSITION TOWARDS THE SOCIALIST PAST IN FILIPOVSKA’S NOVEL IDOL ON THE WALL(University Ss. Cyril and Methodius in Skopje, 2026-06-29)The form of socialism introduced in Yugoslavia after the Second World War under Josip Broz Tito is still being discussed from many contrasting viewpoints in the territory of former Yugoslavia. In the context of such discussions, Elena Filipovska published the novel Идол на ѕидот (Idol on the Wall, 2020). The story is set in modern-day Skopje, but in an alternative history in which Yugoslavia did not disintegrate. Instead, a third marshal leads the country, continuing and transforming the socialist rule into an increasingly dehumanized variant. This article explores how the novel constructs a dystopia, which both resembles life in the past, specifically in the 1970s and 1980s, and is based on familiar tropes in dystopian fiction: removal of children from their parents’ care to be raised by the state, fear of being followed by the government intelligence service, and nationalization of private property. The novel has mainly been discussed as criticism of the socialist system. I argue, however, that the ideas expressed through the narrative are much more ambiguous, and that rather than being critical, the novel assumes a more complex position toward socialist legacy. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, ANGLICISMS IN THE MACEDONIAN LANGUAGE DIRECT BORROWINGS VS LOAN TRANSLATIONS(University Ss. Cyril and Methodius in Skopje, 2025-12-11)Abstract The significant influx of Anglicisms into the Macedonian language has become an undeniable linguistic phenomenon. Anglicisms appear in various domains such as information technology, law, business, social welfare and science. They reflect the influence of English over Macedonian as well as the interest of the Macedonian society. The analysis is qualitative and it is based on a randomly collected corpus of 300 Anglicisms that appear in the Macedonian language from the beginning of the 21st century. The research, first, focuses on the identification and classification of visible Anglicisms and criteria that verify their visibility, and then it contrasts them with the loan translations. The study also examines the patterns of borrowing Anglicisms into Macedonian, focusing on the distinction between direct lexical borrowings and calques or loan translations. It aims to determine why certain English expressions are directly incorporated into the Macedonian language, while others are translated part by part, sometimes coexisting with their original English forms. Certain tendencies are noted, based on the analysis, which indicate that socio-cultural factors play more significant role than linguistic circumstances when establishing the predictable patterns of borrowing. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
