The text is an attempt to interpret the novel Desert by Gjorgi Abadijev through some of the basic concepts of the philosophy of existentialism, more precisely through the premises presented in The Myth of Sisyphus by Albert Camus. The analysis of the novel focuses on comparing the ways in which the two main characters, Gligor and Arso, both sentenced to a life imprisonment, accept (or are unable to accept) the absurdity of existence, rely on hope or reject it with contempt, strive for freedom or give it up as something unattainable, choose life or death. The text thus indicates that Abadziev’s novel was created in the context of existentialist trends in literature, current in the European culture at the time when Desert was written. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
In this paper, we refer to a polemic from 1898 in which the teacher Evtimica Jancheva from the town of Voden took part. The polemic developed as a response to two texts in which the authors criticised women, especially teachers, for their attitude towards fashion and work. Jancheva's extensive text, published in the newspaper Novini, in the section Correspondence, defends the right of women to be teachers, to follow the latest fashion trends, etc. In this way, the article by Evtimica Jancheva is the first registered polemical writing in Macedonian literature, in which a woman had taken part, while Evtimca Jancheva is considered to be the first Macedonian woman to take part in a public polemic. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
In this paper we analyze the depictions of hell and the devil in Macedonian folklore from the 19th century by comparing several mediums: folk songs, stories, curses, proverbs, etc. Adam and Eve’s exile from Paradise marks the first internal and external exile in the history of mankind. In light of this, we focus on numerous descriptions of hell as a place full of fire in which sinners are exposed to torments, and of the image of the devil as a master of evil. In this context, we look at different names for hell and the devil that represent social and spiritual apostasy and disapproval of existing ethical and moral norms. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, KILLING OF THE ELDERLY: THE MACEDONIAN CUSTOM “SLAUGHTER OF THE OLD MEN”(2024)Славчо КовилоскиThis paper addresses the problem of killing of elderly people, a custom commonly referred to as "slaughtering the elderly" in Macedonia. Examples of this myth are registered across various regions of Macedonia, including Ohrid, Bitola, Prilep, Veles, Skopje and the surrounding areas, Dojran, the surroundings of Kratovo, Negotino, Debar, Drimkol, and the expansive hilly-mountainous regions of Maleshevo and Mariovo. The motivations behind senicide were numerous. It was commonly thought that during times of famine, killing of the elderly was a means of conserving scarce food resources. In addition, senicide occurred as a result of land confiscation, where the property or cultivation rights of the elderly were transferred to their younger generations. In some cases, these killing were considered an act of mercy, especially when an individual suffered from an incurable disease, or faced the challenges of old age, when people could not meet even their most basic biological needs, thus becoming a burden to the family or the community. The traumatic experience of sons killing their fathers, according to traditions, led to the abandonment of this brutal custom. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
In this paper, we shall address the issue of pseudonymity in Macedonian literature. We shall focus on the process of collecting, analyzing, and synthesizing unsigned works or those signed with hidden names, initials, graphic signs, etc. We categorize them into several groups (cryptonyms, collective pseudonyms, geonyms or troponyms, latinisms, phytonyms, etc). We shall present these observations as an example of the possibilities for further research in the field of pseudonymy, as well as the need to clarify the necessities and the ways to write under a hidden name. We consider this work as a relevant basis for providing insight into the complexity of the issue of Macedonian literary pseudonyms. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Among the Macedonian authors who left their mark in the periodicals at the beginning of the 20th century, a sig nificant place belongs to Olga Madzarova (1887, Negovan, Thessaloniki area - Gorna Dzumaja after 1934). She is the author of the longest journalistic text in general, published by a Macedonian woman on the pages of the daily press in Macedonia under Ottoman rule, i.e. until 1912. Madzarova is the author of the article “The main qualities that a good teacher-pedagogue should possess”, published in two parts on the pages of The Vesti newspaper. The first part was published in issue 71 of July 30, 1904, and its sequel in issue 72 of August 3 of the same year. Under the title of the first part is the information: “Speech delivered by the student Olga Madzarova at the annual act of the Thessaloniki Women’s High School on June 37, 1904.” The two parts published in issues 71 and 72 of The Vesti newspaper refer to the importance of teachers in the education of girls, as well as to their role and presence in public life. The selected words used by the young author indicate the qualities that she possessed, and that she was able to express, in her own way, her thoughts full of hope and ideals for a better future. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings

This article is dedicated to Dafa Cepenkova, a famous interpreter of folk songs. She is a member of Cepenkov family from Prilep and was the sister of the well- known collector and writer of folk art Marko Cepenkov. Unlike her brother Marko, who possessed a remarkable talent for storytelling, Dafa possessed a singing talent. Most of the songs written in Naum Tahov's Collection belong to Dafa. The interpretation and the art of improvisation make the songs be sung with a sense of metrics and a soulful spirit, and some of these songs are works by the singer herself. That is why Dafa Cepenkova is ranked among the best Macedonian folk song interpreters of the 19 th century - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
This text refers to Marija Zrneva from Voden and her writing published in the newspaper Novini. The untitled text was published in 1898 and describes the fire in the town of Voden, in chronological order, since its beginning, the fight against the fire and the successful extinguishing. Item type:Publication, БЛАЖЕ КОНЕСКИ КАКО СЛИКАР(Универзитет „Гоце Делчев“, Филолошки факултет, Штип, 2021)Славчо КовилоскиIn the paper we refer to Blazhe Koneski’s interest in painting, in his first attempts to try in the world of art. We trace his connection with painting from the earliest years until his adulthood. We categorize his interest in painting in two groups: first, by following the frescoes in the monastery of St. Archangel Michael in Varos (Prilep), the portrayal of Lazar Lichenoski and the opening of the exhibition of Cane Sekuloski, and secondly, as an author who transforms nature, paintings and frescoes into literary works. Hence our perception of Koneski as a painter in literature.
