Abstract: It is a specific task to underline the characteristics of short story in the 19th-century Macedonian literature, since here we are inevitably faced with generic variety, which can be noted in each and every one of the authors from this period. On the other hand, short story as a genre has its specific appearance, and historically moves throughout different phases, which baffles us to speak generally about its elements and characteristics. These elements are not determined only culturally, according to the region they developed, they are also connected with its unique structure, most simplistically understood by its short and condensed expression. There is no terminological unification when it comes to the structure of short story, and these terms are usually constructed according to the cultural region from which they originate (novella, short story, story, fable, etc.).
