Abstract
Current questions regarding the relationship between the health insurance, sustainability of the health financing system and the ways towards more and better health services for the population are being researched in this paper. The health insurance as a topic has been analyzed from different aspects. Firstly, the base of the health insurance has been analyzed and the major current and future challenges in this sphere, with a focus of the countries in Europe and transition countries. Secondly, the paper focuses on the sustainability of health financing aspects, and esspecialy of the system of Macedonia providing poposals for more money for the increased demand for health services by the population. Finally, the research is broaden and deepen with the proposals for Macedonia to provide more efficient health system, going through the potential reforms in the segment of purchaser of the health services, providers of the health services, reducing the innefficienty in the system, in order to provide better quality and more health services.
