Item type:Publication, Explorers or Exploiters: A Multi-Technique Bibliometric Review of Individual Ambidexterity(Academy of Management Proceedings, 2025-06-17); ; Global and dynamic environments have pressured organizations into becoming more ambidextrous, resulting in a paradox for contemporary organizational sciences (Papachroni & Heracleous, 2020; Zhang et al., 2022). While employees are seen as a key driver of competitive advantage and high organizational performance, their ambidexterity, i.e. individual ambidexterity has remained in the margins of the research landscape (Nasution et al., 2024; Parmigiani & Howard-Grenville, 2011). This single-perspective research lens neglects the diverse experiences and characteristics of each individual and the ways they can influence the balance between exploration and exploitation as organization members. Recently, researchers have answered the call with several studies analyzing the antecedents and outcomes of individual ambidexterity as well as this concept’s interplay with other organizational phenomena (Schnellbächer et al., 2019). Still, as a growing research niche, which is critical for understanding modern workplaces, there is a lack of a comprehensive, bibliometric synthesis of the findings and an analysis of the gaps. To address this, our research provides a comprehensive, multi-technique bibliometric review of individual ambidexterity research, identifying key trends and underexplored areas in the field. Individual ambidexterity in the organizational context is gaining momentum as a crucial component of innovative behavior and performance, individual well-being, as well as team ambidexterity, firm performance, and organizational sustainable outcomes (Mu et al., 2022; Akbar et al., 2024). Considering the context of rising flexible and remote work arrangements and the growing accessibility and use of artificial intelligence, there has never been a more important time to investigate the genesis and core of employee ambidexterity. This environment underpins the need for lifelong learning, flexibility, reskilling, and upskilling for individuals to stay relevant in their roles, which challenges how we view this type of ambidexterity (Balzano et al., 2024). Essentially, it is conceptualized as the individual ability to simultaneously explore and exploit organizational resources, or, in other words, to perform contradictory activities by switching mindsets and action sets (Rogan & Mors, 2014), presenting a paradox for managers and decision-makers. Thus, our study aims to contribute by integrating the knowledge about individual ambidexterity and pointing out hotspots, influential scientific voices, and areas for further investigation using a multi-technique bibliometric approach, grounded in the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines. Stemming from this, central to this research investigation are the following research questions: 1) What is the inherent intellectual structure of the individual ambidexterity body of research? 2) What are the most impactful hotspots and themes in the research landscape? 3) What is the potential of individual ambidexterity research and what literature gaps on the topic exist? - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Nonlinear Inferences on European Banking Resilience in Operating Efficiency and Riskiness Around the Financial Crisis(EURO, 2024-07) ;Tripathi, M. ;Tavana, M., Frost, T.We examine European banks’ financial performance and risk management and their trends over the years and across banking characteristics around the financial crisis of 2007-2008. By testing for the linear and nonlinear variations using an exogenous quasi-experiment design, we demonstrate the usefulness of understanding the cause of variations in banks’ operating efficiency and riskiness. We adopt the positive theory of capital allocation decisions and risk-taking activities to assess the relationship between banks’ efficiency and risk with value creation from intermediation services. First, we peer-benchmark banks’ efficiency, using data envelopment analysis, and obtain Fitch risk ratings to test for their yearly and geographical resilience, including linear and nonlinear variations before and after the crisis. Second, we de termine bank-specific and industry-specific operational and financial factors, including longitudinal and cross-sectional heterogeneities, that affect European banks’ operating efficiency and riskiness. We find that banking efficiency can provide intuition on mitigating excessive investments and risk-taking around the financial crisis. Further, we capture the informational relevance of banking efficiency to third-party agencies in assessing financial strengths and credit risks. Our study provides a foundation to examine variations in European banks’ performance and risk realizations, including financial decisions and operating saliency. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Croatian Universities Under the Microscope: Who Leads, Who Lags, and Why?(EURO, 2024-07) ;Fotova Cikovic, Katerina ;Kecek, DamiraIn an era propelled by knowledge, our study pioneers a cutting-edge evaluation of teaching and research efficiency in Croatian universities, employing a sophisticated blend of AHP, DEA, and regression analysis. Our extensive literature review from the Scopus database, spanning scholarly discourse from inception to 2023, unveiled crucial focuses: teaching and research efficiency, and their convergence. Distilling in sights, we constructed a refined framework for inputs and outputs, utilizing AHP, and engaging diverse respondents—Ministry of Edu cation, university rectors, and higher education policy advisors—in a structured comparison. They assigned relative importance to input and output hierarchies for teaching and research efficiency. The highest-ranked factors, determined by AHP, shaped the DEA analysis, revealing the efficiency frontier and enabling targeted improvement strategies for universities based on quantified efficiency scores. In parallel, our study delves into the assessment of managerial ability within universities, a pivotal yet often overlooked aspect. Adopting methodologies proposed by Demerjian and Lev (2021) and Banker and Park (2021), we measure the efficacy of managerial decision-making in steering institutions toward relative teaching and research efficiency. By identifying determinants of managerial ability, our analysis contributes insights into the leadership dynamics shaping the overall efficiency of Croatian universities. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Comparative analysis of forecasting models in the nonlife insurance: Insights from the SARIMA and ETS approaches(Wiley, 2024-09-26); To ensure competitiveness and sustainability, insurance companies need accurate predictions. The paper analyzes nonlife insurance gross written premiums, technical premiums, claims, and the number of contracts through a multi‐model univariate approach comparing Seasonal Autoregressive Integrated Moving Average (SARIMA) with Exponential Smoothing models. The hypothesis suggests that SARIMA's superior handling of complex seasonal patterns enhances predictive accuracy. Data from 2012M01 to 2023M06 provides a comprehensive sector‐wide view, essential for decision‐making. The results show that SARIMA models outperform exponential smoothing in almost all major accuracy metrics over the training period. Over the test period, the exponential smoothing models show more accurate performances. However, the optimal exponential smoothing models fail in mitigating autocorrelation and non‐normality in residuals, which is successfully tackled by the weighted ensemble models. In all cases except for the number of contracts concluded, the rolling one‐step ahead forecast approach generates superior accuracy over the classic training‐test split. This research confirms that using SARIMA, exponential smoothing, weighted ensemble, and rolling window models can significantly improve forecasting accuracy and are better solutions than the seasonal naive benchmark. It provides important insights into insurance forecasting and risk management, which are often overlooked in existing literature, and can greatly benefit corporate governance and policymaking. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings

Item type:Publication, To Buy Or Not To Buy Crypto–Cognitive Reflection, Temporal Discounting, And Risk Preference In Crypto Assets Adoption(AIS - Association for Information Systems, 2022-06)The purpose of this research in progress is to investigate the potential impact of Cognitive Reflection Test (CRT) scores, temporal discounting, and risk preferences on crypto-assets adoption and non-adoption. This article, therefore, proposes a novel theoretical framework and hypotheses which can potentially improve the understanding of the financial behavior of crypto-assets adopters and non-adopters. Integrating the existing body of knowledge from Dual Process Theory, Theory of Discounted Utility and Prospect Theory enables us to use cognitive reflection scores, discount rates, and risk preferences as constituents of crypto-assets adopters and non-adopters. The intention of this research proposal is to test the soundness of our theoretical framework and hypothesеs and to enhance our theoretical framework and hypotheses, as well as overall paper, based on the conference feedback and our initial findings in the near future. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Preferences for digital versus printed textbooks: Existing and emerging challenges(AIS - Association for Information Systems, 2022-12)The Covid-19 pandemic is seen by many in the world as a “booster dose” for more rapid digitalization in schools and universities. Research in the past mainly reported inconclusive results about students’ preferences for digital textbooks, although there are significant advances in information technology development and the availability of digital textbooks. We think that preferences have many contextual underlying causes, and they cannot be simply detached and measured only through the behavioral choice (print vs. digital textbook) neglecting the broader context. Hence, we propose conducting a thorough systematic literature review (SLR) on studies that investigated the preferences of three key stakeholders’ students, teachers, and parents to better understand the potential contextual circumstances that trigger certain preferences. This short paper forms the first step towards creating a deeper understanding of preferences for digital textbooks as a phenomenon and research area among IS researchers. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, PREDICTING NON-LIFE INSURANCE SEGMENTS IN THE REPUBLIC OF NORTH MACEDONIA: A COMPARATIVE MULTI-MODELLING PERSPECTIVE(EERIA Second Annual Conference, 2023-09); Insurance prediction emerges as one of the fundamentals in business sustainability and rising market competitiveness, as current decisions depend on future expectations. As the available data exponentially grows, insurers face the most important decision - either focus on significant data analytics or simply lose ground to competitors which do so. This paper aims at predicting future developments in non-life gross written premiums, claims, number of contracts and technical premiums as the pure quantity of the underwritten risk in the Macedonian insurance sector. Through a multi-model univariate approach, the paper aims at uncovering forecasting capabilities of different models, which in turn can be used by the insurers to form expectations more adequately. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Wicked Problems’ Definitions and Characteristics: A Scoping Literature Review(Faculty of Economics & Business, University of Zagreb, 2023-05-13); ;Stella Tsani ;Alexandros Tsioutsios ;Hynek RoubíkWicked problems are multifaceted issues that are difficult to resolve due to their complex, ever- changing, and incomplete nature. They have no single solution and often involve various dimensions, such as technology, social, economic, policy, and environmental factors. Addressing wicked problems necessitates an interdisciplinary and systems approach. However, there remains a need for an interdisciplinary review that delivers a comprehensive understanding of wicked problem definitions, characteristics, and applications. Considering that wicked problems involve various dimensions and require interdisciplinary collaboration, a scoping review is an appropriate method to rapidly map the key concepts and sources of evidence across different fields, providing a more holistic perspective on the topic. Scoping reviews can foster greater awareness and knowledge-sharing among researchers and practitioners from different disciplines by summarizing and disseminating research findings. Additionally, they are instrumental in identifying research gaps in the existing literature. Recognizing these gaps is crucial for guiding future research on wicked problems and ensuring that emerging studies build on and expand current knowledge in the field. To conduct a scoping review on wicked problems, a comprehensive selection process was utilized to identify relevant articles. The eligibility criteria included using selected keywords, a time frame from 2000 to the present, English-language articles, and peer-reviewed publications. Only scientific articles from the following databases were considered to ensure high quality: ScienceDirect, Web of Science, PubMed, and Scopus. For data management, the open-source program Zotero was employed to streamline the process of handling research materials. We identified 121 articles for the data pool to be analyzed. A standardized online form was used for identifying and collecting literature contributions and developments about a) definitions of wicked problems; b) characteristics of wicked problems; and c) factors that influence wicked problems (regulations, policies, institutions, etc.). Through our analysis, we have identified 100 definitions. Most of the research papers build their definitions on the work of Rittel and Weber (1973) or employ the definition that the latter have derived for wicked problems. With regard to the characteristics and factors, the scoping review highlights wicked problems as pervasive, unpredictable, and complex, involving political, economic, social, and environmental factors. Traditional approaches are inadequate, necessitating innovative, multi-dimensional, multi- stakeholder solutions. However, uncertainty and disagreement on addressing wicked problems persist, with no single solution. Furthermore, stakeholders view solutions’ applicability and efficacy differently, adding to the complexity. Purely scientific solutions are insufficient, as wicked problems are closely linked to societal issues, and solutions are subjective, based on stakeholders’ perceptions. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Towards Information Systems Development Approach for Individual Information Systems(Faculty of Economics & Business, University of Zagreb, 2023-05-13)In the ubiquitous information society era, individual information systems have emerged as a potential game-changer for understanding information systems development (ISD). These systems are highly mutable, ad hoc, and subjective in scope and methodology, which contrasts with traditional rational ISD approaches. This paper aims to explore the practices used for developing individual information systems and their implications for ISD. Individual information systems are activity systems where individuals, based on their idiosyncratic needs and preferences, utilize information, technology, and other resources to produce informational products and services for themselves or others. These practices are under-researched, and understanding how individuals overcome ISD problems can provide valuable insights into improving ISD practices. The methodology employed in this study is design ethnography, which involves active intervention and the researcher’s creation of the IT artifact. This approach allows for an in-depth exploration of individual practices in developing information systems. We focus on the author’s personal ethnographic experiences in developing an individual information system for writing. We propose the concept of “nomadic information systems development” as a result of our findings. Unlike conventional rational ISD, nomadic ISD involves users engaging in do-it-yourself practices that lead to diffused translation of solutions, ultimately creating individual information systems. There are practical implications to understanding nomadic ISD. Individuals with little to no programming or system development knowledge are building their systems, making them more susceptible to security threats, data compromise, privacy violations, and more. Identifying and leveraging these practices can help improve information systems development and security. This research offers a deeper understanding of the development of individual information systems by exploring the practices employed and proposing the nomadic information systems development approach. This approach can potentially impact the way information systems are developed in the future, particularly in the context of the ubiquitous information society. By examining these practices and their consequences for ISD, we aim to contribute to the ongoing academic and practical discourse surrounding information systems development.
