Item type:Publication, Evaluation of the surgical treatment of lung cancer(European Respiratory Society, 2024-09); ;R Cholanceski; ;N JakupiM BogdanovskaLung cancer is the most common malignancy in men and in the entire human population. It is considered that 2,200,000 new patients are detected annually in the world (Globcan 2020), 475,000 in Europe (Globcan 2020), i.e. 1,135 in the Republic of North Macedonia (Globcan 2020). The treatment is multimodality and several factors influence its choice. Surgical treatment is one of the modalities of treatment and its application depends on numerous factors - histological structure of the tumor, stage of the disease, satisfactory respiratory reserves, satisfactory cardiac reserves, general condition of the patient, etc. At the clinic for thoracic and vascular surgery in 2022, only 59 patients were surgically treated, which is 85% of the total surgically treated in the Republic of North Macedonia. Of the 59 patients, 44 (74.6%) are men, the average age of the operated patients is 64.22 years and 37 (62.7%) underwent neoadjuvant chemotherapy preoperatively to reduce the tumor and stage of the disease. Patients who were operated on were mostly in IIIA stage 16 (27.12%). The small percentage of operated patients, 7.7%, and the particularly high percentage of operated patients at an advanced stage indicates that patients are detected at an advanced stage of the disease, which is a contraindication for surgery. Introduction of screening for lung cancer using computed tomography in risk groups will significantly change the therapeutic approach to this group of patients, as well as the outcome of treatment of this group of patients. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings

Item type:Publication, Aggressive Posterior Retinopathy of Prematurity (APROP), timely screening and appropriate treatment - Case Report(Институт за јавно здравје на Република Македонија = Institute of public health of Republic of Macedonia, 2025-02-06); ; Stojanovska, AndreaRetinopathy of prematurity (ROP) is a vasoproliferative disease of the retina that is one of the leading causes of blindness in children. In this paper, we describe a case of a premature male child diagnosed with a aggressive posterior form of ROP (APROP) and treated with anti- VEGF injections in both eyes. Ophthalmological monitoring was done during several years of the child's growth. The aim is to highlight the importance of timely screening protocols in order to prevent permanent consequences on visual acuity. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, High-risk HPV E6/E7 messenger RNA testing versus HPV DNA testing in women with squamous cell abnormalities of the uterine cervix(BMJ Publishing Group Ltd, International Gynecologic Cancer Society & European Society of Gynaecological Oncology, 2017-11); ;Duvlis, Sotirija ;Micevska, Megi; Dabeski, AnaAims The study is performed in order to compare the results of two HPV screening methods: High-risk HPV E6/E7 mRNA and HPV DNA. Method Comparative prospective study, conducted in the period for April 2016 to March 2017 at the University Clinics for Gynecology and Obstetrics and Radiotherapy and Oncology in Skopje and Institute of Public Health of Republic of Macedonia of 98 sexually active women, age groups of 20 to 60 years, with squamous cell abnormalities on the cervical cytology. In all 98 women were done: HPV DNA testing, High-risk HPV E6/E7 mRNA testing and colposcopy and directed biopsy with endocervical curettage for histopathological analysis. Results Histopathologically, there were: 36.7% non-neoplastic lesions, 20.4% LGSIL cases, 29.6% HGSIL cases and 13.3% invasive squamous cell carcinomas. HPV DNA was found 78.6% of the cases; E6 and E7 transcripts were found in 58.2%. The rates of detection of HPV DNA and E6 and E7 transcripts were 83.3% and 22.2% for cases with non-neoplastic finding; 65.0% and 45.0% for cases with LGSIL; 75.9% and 93.1% for cases with HGSIL and 92.3% and 100% for cases with invasive squamous cell carcinoma. High-risk HPV E6/E7 mRNA testing showed a higher sensitivity than the HPV DNA testing (79.0% and 75.8%), higher specificity (77.8% and 16.7%) and a higher positive predictive value for HGSIL ( 93.1% and 75.9%) and invasive squamous cell carcinoma (100% and 92.3%). Conclusion High-risk HPV E6/E7 mRNA testing could be more powerful than HPV DNA testing for screening and investigation of HGSIL and invasive squamous cell carcinoma. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings

Item type:Publication, Asthma Control Test™ in Assessment of Clinical Asthma Control(ID Design Press, 2009-12-01); ; ;Tatjana Petrova; Snezana Risteska-KucBackground. The goal of asthma treatment is to achieve and maintain control of the disease. Objective. To assess validity and reliability of Asthma Control TestTM (ACT) as a patient-based tool for quantifying the control of the disease in the subjects with persistent asthma. Methods. A cross-sectional study including 396 subjects with persistent asthma drown from a population of treated patients was performed. Evaluation of the examined subjects included completion of the ACT, spirometry, and asthma specialist rating of control. Results. The mean derived ACT score in all study subjects was 19.2±3.3. Prevalence of the study subjects with totally controlled (TC), well-controlled (WC) and not well-controlled (NWC) asthma by derived ACT score was 9.1%, 43.2% and 47.7%, respectively. Results from the spirometry showed that in 45% of the study subjects FEV1 value was less than 80%. Prevalence of the study subjects with TC, WC and NWC asthma by asthma specialist rating was 8.1%, 41.1% and 50.7%, respectively. A strong correlation between the derived ACT scores and asthma specialist rating of control was observed (r = 0.51, P = 0.000). Conclusion. Our data confirm the usefulness of the ACT as a valid and reliable screening tool for asthma control. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
