Abstract
Access to pharmacies and baby and children’s stores is crucial for supporting maternal and child health in urban areas. This study employs Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to analyse the spatial relationship between population density and the locations of such stores in Skopje, North Macedonia. Using spatial interpolation and hotspot analysis, the research identifies regions with optimal coverage and those underserved by current facilities. Findings reveal that while most densely populated areas are well-served, several peripheral zones - notably in the north, east, and southeast - have limited access, presenting opportunities for new business ventures. The approach supports data-driven decision-making for business expansion and enhances community accessibility. The results can guide strategic planning to improve service distribution and ultimately benefit families throughout the city.
