    Development and Initial Validation of the Single-Item Wittiness Scale: A Preliminary Study
    (Israeli Society for Humor Studies, Shoham, 2017)
    ;
    Renner, Karl-Heinz
    The present study aim was the construction and initial validation of the Single-Item Wittiness Scale (SIWS). We define wittiness as a specific type of humor production, which includes two separate processes: production fluency and production success (Moran et al., 2013). In that sense,the single item that was constructed reflects both of these processes. The SIWS was administered to a total sample of 83 high school students (30 male and 53 female), together with the As-if-Scale (Renner et al.,2008)and katagelasticism subscale of the PhoPhiKat (Ruch & Proyer, 2009). The results show that, first, self and peer-rated wittiness were positively associated. Second, males tend to have higher scores on peer-rated wittiness. Next, histrionic self-presentation style correlated positively with both self and peer ratings of wittiness. Finally, (active) katagelasticism was not associated with either self or peer-rated wittiness. Therefore the construct validity of the SIWS was partially confirmed.

    The relation of humor structure appreciation with sensation seeking and judgments of complex-abstract art and sophisticated music
    (Serbian Psychological Society, Belgrade, 2018)
    The aim of the present study is two-fold. Firstly, the relation between sensation seeking and humor structure appreciation has been investigated (Carretero-Dios & Ruch, 2010), and also the association between humor structure appreciation and complex-abstract art has been reported (Ruch & Hehl, 1998). In that sense, this study aims to replicate previously reported findings. Second, the association between humor structure appreciation and sophisticated music (Rentfrow, Goldberg, & Levitin, 2011) was explored. Results obtained from 77 participants partially supported the predictions. Sensation seeking was negatively related with the aversiveness ratings of nonsense humor, while pleasantness of complex-abstract art was negatively associated with funniness of incongruity-resolution humor and positively with the structure preference index. Aversiveness of incongruity-resolution humor correlated negatively with sophisticated music ratings. Finally, ratings on the abstract-art paintings and sophisticated musical excerpts were positively associated. Implications of the findings, limitations of this study and avenues for further research are examined

    The development of the Humor Structure Appreciation Scale and its relation to Sensation Seeking Inventory and Need for Closure Scale
    (Cracow Tertium Society for the Promotion of Language Studies, Cracow, 2018)
    ;
    ;
    Platt, Tracey
    Three related studies are presented with the aim of investigating the individual differences inhumour appreciation, sensation seeking and need for closure. In order to accomplish this, theconstruction and initial validation of a new instrument will be presented. The HumourStructure Appreciation Scale (HSAS) distinguishes between incongruity-resolution (INC-RES), and nonsense (NON) humour. The first study analyses the content validity of a broaditem pool. The second study focused on the metric properties of the selected items. In thethird study, the remaining jokes were given to a quota sample from Macedonia, along withmeasures of sensation seeking (Arnett Inventory of Sensation Seeking) and need for closure(Need for Closure Scale). Psychometric properties of the scales were investigated andshowed to be satisfactory. Intercorrelations among the scales provide evidence for theconstruct validity of the HSAS.

    Psychometric properties of the Macedonian version of the Implicit Positive and Negative Affect Test (IPANAT–M)
    (Naklada Slap, Zagreb, 2017)
    ;
    The aim of this study was to analyze the psychometric properties of the Macedonian version of the Implicit Positive and Negative Affect Test (IPANAT–M; Quirin, Kazén, & Kuhl, 2009). First, in a pretest study, it was shown that two of the artificial words from the original test needed to be replaced, since they were not free of meaning in a Macedonian context. Two new artificial words were included in the IPANAT–M. Study 1 showed that the IPANAT–M had satisfactory test-retest reliability over a period of one week. In Study 2, the factorial validity of the test was explored. The two factor solution explained 63.91% of the total variance, and the factors could be easily interpreted as implicit positive and implicit negative affect. The results indicate that IPANAT–M has satisfactory psychometric properties.

    Проверка на психометриските карактеристики на скалата на потреба од затворање
    (Филозофски факултет, Скопје, 2015)
    Целта на ова истражување е проверка на психометриските карактеристики на Скалата на потреба од затворање (Need for Closure Scale, Roets & Van Hiel, 2011). Конструктот потреба од затворање се однесува на потребата од когнитивно (сознајно) затворање, додека користената скала претставува кратка верзија која е составена од 15 ставки. По направениот вратен превод, емпириската анализа беше насочена кон анализа на ставките и анализа на главните компоненти. Користениот примерок од 217 испитаници претставува пригоден примерок, но, сепак, испитаниците беа избирани во однос на регионот на живеење во Република Македонија (источен, западен, централен и главниот град Скопје како посебен регион), полот (се водеше сметка за речиси еднаква застапеност на машки и на женски испитаници) и возраста (18–25 години, 26–40 години и 41–60 години). Резултатите покажаа дека Скалата има задоволителна внатрешна хомогеност и еднофакторското решение беше потврдено со употреба на паралелна анализа. Во дискусијата се разгледани недостатоците на спроведеното истражување и се дадени препораки за натамошни истражувања за потврда на резултатите и со примена на конфирматорна факторска анализа да се обезбедат докази за валидноста на конструктот. Засега, може да се заклучи дека резултатите од ова истражување посочуваат на меѓукултурна (во смисла и на македонска популација) потврда на конструктот потреба од затворање.
