    BIM in the Center of Digital Transformation of the Construction Sector—The Status of BIM Adoption in North Macedonia

    <jats:p>The building sector nowadays has come to the stage where it needs a “digital” renovation. This is to be accomplished by an introduction of change into the methodology of construction and using new tools and technologies, such as BIM technology. This paper gives an insight into the status of BIM adoption in North Macedonia. It presents the threefold actions toward introduction of BIM in the national construction industry. These actions refer to scanning the current situation regarding digitalization of the sector, then taking promotional actions to express the benefits of BIM, and finally identifying and proposing the most suitable measures, summarized in the proposal of the National Roadmap for BIM adoption. The methods used consist of a brief literature review of the global status of BIM development. Then, the results of a survey conducted on more than 300 respondents representing a sample of building professionals in the country are discussed, and the barriers for successful BIM adoption are accordingly identified. The next step is to showcase the potential benefits of BIM for assessment of energy performance of buildings. As a final point, the conclusions drafted toward identification of the most important challenges are addressed in the proposed National Roadmap for BIM adoption.</jats:p>

    <jats:title>Abstract</jats:title> <jats:p>Ionizing radiation applied on food eliminates harmful microorganisms, prevents sprouting and delays ripening. All methods for detection of irradiated food are based on physical, chemical, biological or microbiological changes caused by the treatment with ionizing radiation. When minerals are exposed to ionizing radiation, they accumulate radiation energy and store it in the crystal lattice, by which some electrons remain trapped in the lattice. When these minerals are exposed to optical stimulation, trapped electrons are released. The phenomenon, called optically stimulated luminescence or photostimulated luminescence, occurs when released electrons recombine with holes from luminescence centers in the lattice, resulting in emission of light with certain wavelengths.</jats:p> <jats:p>In this paper, the results of measurements performed on seven different samples of herbs and spices are presented. In order to make a comparison between luminescence signals from samples treated with different doses, unirradiated samples are treated with Co-60 with doses of 1 kGy, 5 kGy and 10 kGy. In all cases it was shown that the higher the applied dose, the higher the luminescence signal.</jats:p>

    Time Window Determination for Inference of Time-Varying Dynamics: Application to Cardiorespiratory Interaction

    Interacting dynamical systems abound in nature, with examples ranging from biology and population dynamics, through physics and chemistry, to communications and climate. Often their states, parameters and functions are time-varying, because such systems interact with other systems and the environment, exchanging information and matter. A common problem when analysing time-series data from dynamical systems is how to determine the length of the time window for the analysis. When one needs to follow the time-variability of the dynamics, or the dynamical parameters and functions, the time window needs to be resolved first. We tackled this problem by introducing a method for adaptive determination of the time window for interacting oscillators, as modeled and scaled for the cardiorespiratory interaction. By investigating a system of coupled phase oscillators and utilizing the Dynamical Bayesian Inference method, we propose a procedure to determine the time window and the propagation parameter of the covariance matrix. The optimal values are determined so that the inferred parameters follow the dynamics of the actual ones and at the same time the error of the inference represented by the covariance matrix is minimal. The effectiveness of the methodology is presented on a system of coupled limit-cycle oscillators and on the cardiorespiratory interaction. Three cases of cardiorespiratory interaction were considered-measurement with spontaneous free breathing, one with periodic sine breathing and one with a-periodic time-varying breathing. The results showed that the cardiorespiratory coupling strength and similarity of form of coupling functions have greater values for slower breathing, and this variability follows continuously the change of the breathing frequency. The method can be applied effectively to other time-varying oscillatory interactions and carries important implications for analysis of general dynamical systems.
