Item type:Publication, ANALYSIS OF INNOVATIVE AND ENTREPRENEURIAL POTENTIAL OF FIVE WESTERN BALKAN UNIVERSITIES SUPPORTED BY THE HEINNOVATE INITIATIVE(IATED, 2022-11) ;Velkovski, Trajce; ;Jovanovski, Bojan ;Velkovska, MilaPolenakovikj, LiljanaHigher Education Institutions (HEI) are crucial for solving societal challenges and encouraging exchange of knowledge and lifelong learning. Moreover, HEIs can be drivers for transformation and innovation when they engage with the environment. Academic education offers students a chance to get acquainted to the latest developments in their field and to get a clearer view on how to implement them in business in the future. In this regard, the European Commission and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development developed comprehensive online guidance and self-assessment tool for HEIs, widely known as HEInnovate. The platform provides opportunity for HEIs to self-assess various statements related to entrepreneurial activities, including leadership, staffing and links with business. This research is based on the HEInnovate platform as an assistance for five Western Balkans Universities located in Albania, Montenegro and Bosnia and Herzegovina to become even more innovative, entrepreneurial and to generate values for the society. The research is conducted from May-August 2022, thus involving the impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic in the universities’ endeavours to become more entrepreneurial. The research is conducted as part of the project “Reconnecting universities and enterprises to unleash regional innovation and entrepreneurial activity / KnowHub”, co-funded by the European Union under the Erasmus + programme KA2 – Cooperation for innovation and the exchange of good practices – Capacity Building in the field of Higher Education, which supported the establishment of five Commercialisation Hubs at each of the participating Western Balkan Universities. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, COMPARATIVE ANALYSES OF THE ENTREPRENEURIAL BEHAVIOUR OF FIVE WESTERN BALKAN UNIVERSITIES FOR ESTABLISHING COMMERCIALIZATION HUBS(IATED, 2020-11) ;Stankovska, Ivana ;Velkovski, Trajce; ;Polenakovikj, LiljanaShterjova, NastasijaThe universities are large and crucial part of the global economy, which tend to follow the evolution in the societies through modernization and wider collaboration with other stakeholders. In this way, the universities are expanding their responsibilities beyond teaching and research, acting in an innovative and proactive manner. This shift of the role that universities play, from a simple role as educational institutions to a complex role of entrepreneurial ecosystems, has steamed from the knowledge economy and realization of the potential benefits that knowledge has in all aspects of the community. The importance of the entrepreneurial component of the universities is widely recognized and researched by various scholars and policy-makers. One of the most important initiatives in this respect is the joint initiative by the European Commission and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development for development of comprehensive online guidance and self-assessment tool for HEI (Higher Education Institutions), widely known as HEInnovate. In addition, this initiative provides a guiding framework for policy-making entities to support innovation and entrepreneurship. The aim of the self-assessment tool is facilitation of the analyses based on the institution-wide strategic responses, organised around eight strategic pillars: Leadership and Governance; Organisational Capacity; Entrepreneurial Teaching and Learning; Preparing and Supporting Entrepreneurs; Digital Transformation and Capability; Knowledge Exchange and Collaboration; The Internationalised Institution; and Measuring Impact. In our research, the HEInnovate tool for investigating the entrepreneurial behaviour of five WB (Western Balkan) universities located in Albania, Montenegro and Bosnia and Herzegovina was employed. The HEInnovate survey was conducted with 254 respondents from various role categories, such as: Administrative leader; Dean/Head of School/Faculty; Expert; External stakeholder; Professor/Teacher; Student (Undergraduate – PhD), etc. The collected dataset was analysed from two perspectives. Firstly, the country-specific and university-specific responses were observed separately and comparatively among different countries. Secondly, the answers were classified according to the role of the respondents, and relevant role-specific findings were brought to light. Of particular interest was the comparison of the behaviours between the most represented internal and external role categories: Professor/Teacher and External stakeholder (businesses, SMEs -Small and Medium Enterprises-, start-ups, spin-offs, entrepreneurs and other companies). This paper presents the revealed results which outline interesting country-specific and university-specific conclusions that will be base for strategic planning of the commercialization hubs that is foreseen to be established at each university. The utilization of the commercialization hubs at these universities will drive them in establishing overall entrepreneurial framework, not only for imposing the entrepreneurial education, but also for setting the commercialization hubs as pivotal point that relates industry, government and communities to the university for maximal exploitation of the benefits of knowledge and research by the society. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings

Item type:Publication, GreenCompass - A self-assessment tool for fostering integration of green skills(PAGEPress Publications, 2024-09-19) ;Jovanovski, Bojan ;Shamsuzzoha, Ahm; ;Velkovska, MilaVelkovski, Trajce
In today's ever-evolving landscape, fostering green skills emerges as a paramount endeavour, a beacon of progress towards a green(er) future. Within this transformative journey, this paper unveils a blueprint for organizations and institutions seeking to embrace a green future. The Self-Assessment Tool, GreenCompass, emerges as a pivotal cornerstone of this research, designed to quantitatively assess the green innovation capabilities of VET organizations. This tool offers a comprehensive view of an organization's readiness and potential for fostering green skills for green innovation. The paper further unveils the insights garnered from the extensive pilot-testing of the GreenCompass across diverse geographical regions and within various types of vocational education and training institutions, validating its applicability for a broad spectrum of settings. In the last part, the paper emphasizes the creation of an environment, a nurturing environment wherein green skills can thrive. It's a conceptual framework dedicated to facilitating the growth of a sustainable and green mindset, in alignment with the evolving dynamics of the green transition. This journey underscores the significance of a comprehensive methodology, one that begins with self-assessment, evolves through empirical validation, and culminates in the establishment of an environment to nurture green innovation. Ultimately, this multifaceted approach propels organizations towards a future characterized by innovation, sustainability, and an un-wavering commitment to a greener, more eco-conscious world.
- Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, RECOGNISING NEW TRENDS IN VET TOWARDS GREEN TRANSITION: EXPERIENCE FROM NORTH MACEDONIA(IATED, 2022-11) ;Velkovska, Mila ;Gecevska, Valentina; ;Velkovski, TrajceJovanovski, BojanRapid technological, economic and social development requires inevitable changes and improvements, while sustainable development, environmental awareness and principles are increasingly becoming part of organisations' long-term strategies. The increasing benefits that come with implementing green approaches and concepts by connecting technology, innovation and sustainability are being more broadly recognised. The current global goal is to adapt existing and emerging technologies to satisfy both companies’ and customers’ needs, with minimal or no impact on the environment. Taking into account the continuous changes and the will for flexibility and timely reaction to them, there are needs to upgrade the existing knowledge and skills. Educational systems should be capable to react quickly to the changes and adjust their educational programmes in order to deliver a competent workforce. Greening of the existing occupations is highly recommended and vocational education and training (VET) have to be in line with industry needs and the demands of the labour market. In North Macedonia, vocational education and training are regarded as second-tier pathways to adulthood, designed for learners from less advantaged backgrounds. More than ever, employers from the industry are worried about the lack of well-trained and competent human resources who are willing to cope with today’s challenges and constant changes. In this paper, authors identify the trends in vocational education and training that enable or hinder the green transition in North Macedonia. For that purpose, a survey with more than 90 industry representatives, professors/teachers/educators and other stakeholders relevant for achieving green future, has been conducted in the period from January-August 2021. The survey analyses what is missing, what should be further developed and how to achieve the desired goals for improving vocational training in line with the green transition. Recommendations derived from the research will be submitted to the team responsible for development of a smart specialisation strategy (S3) in North Macedonia, as a potential response to the challenge of achieving structural changes for supporting knowledge-driven growth and technological, practice-based and social innovation. This research was conducted within the project “European VET Excellence Platform for Green Innovation”, co-funded by the Erasmus+ programme of the European Union (www.greenovet.eu).
