Abstract: The doctoral thesis presents a systematized overview and an in-depth analysis of the relevant theoretical considerations of the subject matter, expected to contribute to the development of the quality cost management methodology, as an achievement in the area of quality and its sustainability. In addition, it looks at the impact of the latest development and the modern paradigm in quality management, the genesis of the quality cost concept development, the methods and the techniques to promote quality, as well as the quality cost management. An area of particular interest refers to the analysis of the differences related to the understanding, definitions, values, approaches, benefits, as well as the practical application of quality costs. The thesis highlights the contributions in the quality costs evolution from a scientific, research and institutional aspect, by looking at the descriptive, graphic and mathematical interpretation of the quality costs structure definition models. This research also presents the analyses of the categories and the elements of quality costs, thereby gaining useful insights related to the presentation of a generic sustainable quality costs model. The thesis provides an elaborated and systematized approach to introducing and implementing a sustainable quality costs management system, by presenting dedicated algorithms for identification, measurement and management of quality costs, as well as selecting an appropriate model. The application of a holistic approach to the management of sustainable quality costs, integrates the three known quality management methodologies: DMAIC (Define, Measure, Analyse, Improve, Control) with additional phase D (Disseminate), PDCA (Plan, Do, Check, Act) and the Joseph M. Juran’s trilogy. The verification of the generic quality costs model came out of the presentation of the structured empirical data obtained through a questionnaire and an evaluation based on the Delphi method. We used empirical research to verify the quality costs management generic model using selected typical scenarios. The thesis provides epistemological, utilitarian and meritorious conclusions as well as insight and guidelines for future research.
