Abstract
The ancient philosophical language has always been a challenge for contemporary
interpretation, especially the language of the concepts that does not find their contemporary
correlate. In order to approach such concepts, like ψυχή for example, the metodological
approach has to adopt polydimensional and open perspective.
This article examines the interpretative strategy that Vitomir Mitevski develops in
reading the concept of ψυχή in Plato’s philosophy. First, he deals with the dominant
contemporary interpretations of the theory of the soul with an open criticism towards their
scientism. Secondly, Mitevski elaborates generic theory of the soul that emerges from
the unique ancient worldview which enables him to define Plato’s specific contribution.
Besides these two methodological strategies, Mitevski’s interpretative endeavor is
distinguished by bringing into focus the micro-macro aspect of the theory of the soul.
According to him, this aspect can bridge over many theoretical discrepancies and offer an
attempt for unifying reading of Plato’s philosophy
