    Stress in families with intellectually disabled child
    (Faculty of Philosophy, Skopje, 2014)
    ;
    ;
    Being a parent of an intellectually disabled child is often associated with a range of problems in the mental health, with increased levels of stress, a feeling of inferiority and shame, decreased physical function, fatigue and exhaustion parents. As a result of increased care requirements, it is reasonable to assume that parents of intellectually disabled children are at increased risk for developing high levels of personal stress. In recent decades, the overall treatment of these people is completely changed. Medical and institutional approach focus move to integral rehabilitation, which includes the entire family and their needs. The aim of our study was to establish the level of stress and stressful situations which pass the family of a child with intellectual disability in everyday functioning. In order to achieve the goal we set the following tasks: determining the level of stress faced by the family as well as determining the existing formal and informal support groups, their activity and function. The survey covered 104 families who have a child with an intellectual disability. We used the descriptive method and the method of generalization. Through the data analysis we came to the conclusion that 90.38% of families experienced their first stress and shock when they found out that their child has an intellectual disability. Most of them (60.58%) saw it as an extreme stress. This stressful situation is believed to be the first, but further stress doesn’t disappear. The parents are exposed to constant stress in their everyday activities, which is caused by the child’s needs and by the attitudes of the environment.

    Socioeconomic status of the families with children with intellectual disability
    (Faculty of Education and Rehabilitation Sciences, 2013)
    ;
    ;
    Family is the first and most important factor for socialization of the child and for providing appropriate conditions for its normal development. Living with a child with intellectual disabilities brings significant financial, emotional, and general, life changes. In the last few decades treatment of those people is completely changed. From medical and institutional approach, the focus has moved towards integral rehabilitation, which includes the entire family and their needs. The aim of the research is to determinate the socio-economic status of the families who have child with intellectual disabilities. In the survey we included 104 families of the children with intellectual disability in special primary schools and Daycare center. From the available methods, we used descriptive, causal method and method of generalization. During the analysis and interpretation of the results we made review of the educational level of the parents, their employment and financial condition, and the health of all family members. We found that the educational level of the member of those families is lower than the educational level in the general population; these families have a lower employment rate with lower monthly incomes compared with the average incomes, and finally, have generally good health with increased frequency of transient problems and chronic diseases. The obtained results indicate that families have low socioeconomic status. Some of the results show us difficult economic, financial and social position, which can be interpreted as alarming and requiring immediate intervention for improving the socioeconomic status of these families. On the other hand, improvement of living conditions, raising the socio-economic level by itself provides higher quality of life for the children with intellectual disability and their families.

    Поддршка на семејствата со дете со пречки во развојот
    (Универзитет Гоце Делчев, Штип, 2019)

    Семејството на дете со пречки во развојот се соочува со неколку социјални ризици во исто време, т. е. со развојните предизвици на детето од една страна, и добивање на соодветна поддршка од релевантните институции, од друга страна. Како земја во долготрајна транзиција, сé уште немаме доволно развиен систем на формална и неформална социјална заштита, или истиот функционира на незадоволително ниво поради што семејствата се соочуваат со низа дополнителни проблеми. Целта на нашиот труд е да дадеме преглед на законската регулатива во насока на подобрување на квалитетот на живот на детето со развојни потешкотии, односно на неговото семејство. Нашата анализа е насочена кон утврдување на финансиските надоместоци кои ги нуди државата и утврдување на евентуалната дискриминација при поставување на законската регулатива. Според добиените резултати утврдивме дека постојат неколку дискриминирачки одлуки во распределбата на надоместоците. Еден од тие надоместоци е посебниот додаток кој според последните промени изнесува 5.096 ден за 2019г, истиот е наменет за повеќе категории на попреченост, но не и за лицата со лесна интелектуална попреченост, што претставува еден вид на дискриминација со оглед на тоа што оваа категорија на деца е најбројна помеѓу децара со интелектуална попреченост, а од друга страна потекнуваат од семејства со најнизок социо-економски статус.

    Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, higher educational institutions worldwide switched to emergency distance learning in early 2020. The less structured environment of distance learning forced students to regulate their learning and motivation more independently. According to self-determination theory (SDT), satisfaction of the three basic psychological needs for autonomy, competence and social relatedness affects intrinsic motivation, which in turn relates to more active or passive learning behavior. As the social context plays a major role for basic need satisfaction, distance learning may impair basic need satisfaction and thus intrinsic motivation and learning behavior. The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between basic need satisfaction and procrastination and persistence in the context of emergency distance learning during the COVID-19 pandemic in a cross-sectional study. We also investigated the mediating role of intrinsic motivation in this relationship. Furthermore, to test the universal importance of SDT for intrinsic motivation and learning behavior under these circumstances in different countries, we collected data in Europe, Asia and North America. A total of N = 15,462 participants from Albania, Austria, China, Croatia, Estonia, Finland, Germany, Iceland, Japan, Kosovo, Lithuania, Poland, Malta, North Macedonia, Romania, Sweden, and the US answered questions regarding perceived competence, autonomy, social relatedness, intrinsic motivation, procrastination, persistence, and sociodemographic background. Our results support SDT’s claim of universality regarding the relation between basic psychological need fulfilment, intrinsic motivation, procrastination, and persistence. However, whereas perceived competence had the highest direct effect on procrastination and persistence, social relatedness was mainly influential via intrinsic motivation.

    This paper explores the findings of the National Situation Analysis on Early Childhood Intervention (ECI) in North Macedonia, focusing on the experiences and perspectives of parents and caregivers of children with developmental delays and disabilities. The study aimed to assess the current state of ECI services, examine the needs of children and families, and identify service provision gaps, particularly among marginalized groups such as the Roma community. Using a mixed-methods approach, surveys and focus groups were conducted to gather both quantitative and qualitative data from parents, caregivers, and ECI professionals. The analysis revealed that only 58% of eligible children receive ECI services, with geographical coverage being a significant challenge, especially in rural and underserved areas. 81% of parents reported no waiting lists, while 19% experienced waiting times, with 68% waiting less than three months. Barriers such as long waiting periods, financial constraints, and transportation issues were more pronounced among low-income and minority families. Additionally, 23% of parents indicated that they did not face any barriers, but 12% lacked information on ECI services. Family participation in ECI services varied, with 24% of parents involved in comprehensive developmental assessments and 22% participating in parent-child interaction assessments. Lower engagement was noted in transition plans (9%) and home safety assessments (4%), suggesting opportunities to improve family involvement in long-term planning and safety evaluations. The study highlights the urgent need to expand ECI services, especially in rural areas, and recommends developing a comprehensive national ECI strategy. This strategy should prioritize equitable access, improve service delivery, and enhance ECI personnel's capacity through specialized training, ultimately fostering more inclusive and effective services for children and their families.
