Item type:Publication, Flow of funds account in the Macedonian economy – methodology, trends and effects of the crisis(CEA, Skopje, 2014); The analyses of the macroeconomic developments mainly are based on the data from the basic macroeconomic accounts – national accounts, balance of payments, monetary survey, government statistics. Based upon theoretical grounds and international methodological principles and standards, an effort has been made for establishing and developing a consistent framework for analyzing flow of funds in the Republic of Macedonia. The matrices has been constructed and a quantitative analysis has been conveyed on the flows of financial funds amongst the sectors in the Macedonian economy for the period 2004-2013. Based on the constucted matrices, (1) the position of the each sector as a net debtor/creditor is assessed, (2) the sources for financing/investing of that position are analyzed, and (3) the flows of funds among the sectors are assessed. Special attention is given to the effects of the crisis, therefore two sub-period are distinguished and separately analyzed: 2004-2008 as a pre-crisis period and 2009-2013 as a post-crisis period. In these two sub-period the changes in the behavior of the main sectors of the Macedonian economy are analyzed in terms of their net lending/borrowing position and the sources of funding that position. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Unemployment in Macedonia(Faculty of Business and Management Sciences Novo mesto, 2014-04-10); Unemployment in Macedonia is one of the most difficult economic, social and political problems, of which the main characteristics and the government response are presented in this paper. Overall, there are no “quick fixes” for problems as severe as those being experienced in the Macedonian labor market. Despite their dedication, Macedonian political leaders to this issue, and many reforms that have been undertook in the last five years, which led to a reduction in unemployment, there are still many possible reforms and practical proposals that can be implemented in order to improve the employment conditions. Some of them are recommended in this paper. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT PLANNING – THE CASE OF MACEDONIA(MESTE NGO, 2015-01-15); To meet the challenges of sustainable development, strategic planning practices need to become more effective, efficient, credible and lasting. A sustainable development strategy is a tool for informed decision-making that provides a framework for systematic thought across sectors and territory. Following the recommendations of the UN World Summit on Sustainable Development in Johannesburg 2002, Macedonia developed a national strategy for sustainable development, for the period 2009-2030. The proposal for the overall strategy comprises of two main parts: (1) long-term, intermediate and short-term objectives, which timely address the important issue of EU accession as well as making the Republic of Macedonia sustainable, and (2) seven strategic thrusts, which address what to focus on in order to make the Republic of Macedonia sustainable. However, what is still missing is complex methodological and analytical framework for sustainable development analysis (Social Accounting Matrix, SESAME approach, NAMEA approach). Hence, one should point to the fact that sustainable development and sustainable development planning are complementary processes which should ultimately lead to increased well-being of the mankind. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Strategic Role of Human Resource Management in Organizations in the Republic of Macedonia(Faculty of Business and Management Sciences, Novo mesto & Faculty of Business, Management and Informatics, Novo mesto, 2016-04-14); ; Today, strategic management and human resource management are the two most important interests and tasks of modern management. Their mutual integration is a prerequisite for achieving organizational competitive advantage. Only when the human resource management department is involved in the strategy formulation and implementation, it comes to the strategic management of human resources. Although a great number of chief executive officers expresses high awareness of the importance of involving human resource management in the process of strategic execution, for which it is traditionally in charge, as well as in the process of the strategic planning, there is no mutual agreement on the extent to which it should be involved in the process. Numerous studies that have been conducted all over the world suggest different results, with different success in achieving competitive advantage which is rare, valuable and difficult to imitate, however, needed for long-term survival and development of the organizations. In order to determine the (strategic) role of human resource management in organizations in Republic of Macedonia and to make a comparison with the situation in the developed countries, a survey of 67 organizations was conducted, and in the paper, the results of the survey are analyzed in details. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Why is the social accounting matrix important for the Republic of Macedonia(University of Craiova, Faculty of Economics and Business Administration, Romania, 2014); ; Economic planning has a key role in achieving sustainable economic development and needs proper tool for relevant quantitative analysis. Social accounting matrix (SAM) is such a tool that supports quantitative and qualitative policy-analysis. Hence, development planning methodology is of highest importance for the organization of efficient development planning system in the Republic of Macedonia. As a result, the social accounting matrix (SAM) for Macedonia (non-existent at the moment) will be a tool that provides solid support to scientifically based economic analysis and assessment of the current situation and future development. As such, it organizes the information on the economic, social and environmental structure of an economy in a certain period of time; provides schematic presentation of incomes and outlays in the economic system; and forms statistical foundations for macroeconomic models building. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, International markets impact on wheat prices in the Republic of North Macedonia(Faculty of Agriculture and Food Sciences University of Sarajevo, 2022) ;Lazo DIMITROV ;Marija GJOSHEVA KOVACHEVIKJThe production of wheat, as one of the elementary and strategic nutrition crops, in North Macedonia is insufficient and cannot meet the national demands, which results with negative trade balance with import of 74,937 tons of wheat valued at 17.9 million EUR. The main goal of this paper is to analyse the influence of international markets on wheat prices in the Republic of North Macedonia. Data on the purchase price of wheat have been analysed using statistical methods and models from December 2009 to December 2021. A total of 145 monthly time series with data on the purchase price of wheat for Macedonia, the EU, Bulgaria, Romania and Serbia have been analysed and compared. The Pearson correlation coefficient shows a relatively high relationship and mutual dependence of purchase prices in Macedonia, compared to prices in the EU, Bulgaria, Romania and Serbia (over 65%). The purchase prices of wheat in Macedonia have the highest relationship and mutual dependence with the price movement in Serbia (0.78), and the lowest with the price movement in the EU (0.66). The estimated lag length of the autoregressive process (AIC, BIC, FPE and HQIC tests), on average shows 2 lags (months) later time reaction of the wheat prices in Macedonia with the comparison countries countries. The forecasting model (Granger causality test) shows that time series of wheat prices can be convenient for forecasting wheat prices in Macedonia. As of October 2021, the model clearly shows the impact of food economic crisis and unexpected, immediate rise of wheat prices as result of the post Covid-19 and Ukraine war crisis. This research and analysis model can provide significant information for the wheat price trends, forecasting and markets shock, as management and decision-making tools for producers, traders and processors, but also for the policy makers. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, GOVERNMENT INDEBTEDNESS AND ECONOMIC GROWTH IN THE REPUBLIC OF NORTH MACEDONIA(Faculty of Economics - Skopje, Ss Cyril and Methodius University, 2020-11-14) ;Noveski, Martin ;Mojsova Kjoseva, NinaGovernment consumption plays an important role for stability of the national economy, especially in periods of economic crisis. However, rapidly growing public debt is a concerning issue nowadays, since it might jeopardize economic growth perspectives. Economic theory suggests that public debt has non-linear impact on economic growth in a form of inverted U-shape. In other words, it is believed that after a certain threshold, public debt will have negative impact on economic growth. Given that such threshold varies significantly across countries, the aim of this paper is to calculate the turning point of the public debt impact in the Republic of North Macedonia. For this purpose, we use non-linear multiple regression model for real GDP growth rate as dependent variable, general government public debt-to-GDP ratio (in nominal and squared terms) as key independent variable, as well as several other controlling variables. Since theory also suggests reverse causality between economic growth and public debt, we use three different estimation techniques (Ordinary Least Squares, Two-Stages Least Squares, and Generalized Method of Moments) to deal with potential endogeneity, as well as to cross-validate the results. Our results show that general government debt in the Republic of North Macedonia positively affects economic growth until it reaches around 30% of GDP, whereas further indebtedness after that turning point will most likely have negative impact. Given that current debt level is slightly above 40% (10 percentage points higher than the turning point), whereby due to the COVID-19 crisis it is expected to grow even more in the upcoming years, the need of urgent fiscal consolidation inevitably arises. In this regards, deeper and more comprehensive analysis is needed in order to identify adequate channels for its efficient and effective implementation. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
