Item type:Publication, GEOPOLITICS OF THE ENDLESS TRANSITION OF THE REPUBLIC OF MACEDONIA(Faculty of Economics, University of Banja Luka, 2016-10) ;Kitevski, Goran; With the independence after the breakup of Yugoslavia, Macedonia initiated the process of changing of the socio-political system. Such a transition is still active today, meaning that in the meantime the Republic of Macedonia faced a number of serious problems in the implementation of reforms in the system. The arduous process is presented in several developmental stages that have a different impact on the social situation in the country, from the argued aspects of the early ’90s privatization the present increased stages of emigration. For ineffective transition process, several factors and conditions can be underlined, which usually have broad geopolitical basis. Geopolitical features such as the geopolitical position of the country; country’s internal and foreign policy; European integration; neighborly relations and regional arrangements, along with the terms of globalization must be considered as major factors in the endless transition of Macedonian society. Some of them will be presented as positive, but some factors are taken into negative circumstances that represent the transition as an impossible project. Geopolitics of the transitional aspects will explain the current level of transformation of the Macedonian society, the development phase of the free market, the economic effects from the membership of the country in free trade associations and projections of the level of social, economic and political transformation in the next decade in context of geopolitical features and processes. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, ALTERNATIVE FORMS OF TOURISM AS A STRATEGIC SOLUTION FOR THE PROBLEM-SHORT TOURISM SEASON IN THE REPUBLIC OF MACEDONIA(MACEDONIAN GEOGRAPHICAL SOCIETY, 2015-09); ; Kitevski, GoranThe main feature of the tourist movements in the country of Republic of Macedonia is the seasonal concentration which occurs as a result primarily of the needs of tourists for leisure and recreation in coastal areas of the natural lakes in the summer and mountain centers during the winter months. Thus, Republic of Macedonia is an interesting destination for tourists during the summer months of July and August and in a very small part of the winter tourist season, while in spatial aspect, most attractive places are Ohrid and Skopje. This distribution of temporal and spatial concentration of tourist movements causes a range of substantive issues like the short tourist season, unprofitably performance of the tourism sector and so on. The way out of this situation should be sought in the discovery and activation of new tourism places outside the main summer and winter fraction of the tourist season, or through the process of planning, organizing and developing alternative forms of tourism (congress, cultural tourism, rural tourism, spa tourism, hunting tourism etc.) for which, the Republic of Macedonia has a quality potential, but so far has not been sufficiently exploited. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, ТHE SOCIO - POLITICAL CONDITIONS AND ENTREPRENEURSHIP IN THE REPUBLIC OF MACEDONIA(Faculty of Economics, University of Banja Luka, 2014-04); ; Kitevski, GoranThe transformation of the Republic of Macedonia to an open market society, through the years of independence is accompanied by a series events and occurrences that are characterized as social and political problems and processes. Overall, the frequency and intensity of events of general social nature is such that Macedonia has acquired the image of a country that is categorized into social and political incoherent countries. It is not in the favor of the strong will of the Republic of Macedonia and the striving for greater economic liberalization, establishment of macro and micro economic conditions that create favorable business climate, and more. From one perspective, it is the social and political situations that create Macedonian openness on economic participation and entrepreneurship, and on the other hand, such problems and processes are blocking the creation of the “economic oasis“ in the region. Concrete terms and occurrences that are classified as social and political developments and difficulties will be explained in the paper, as well as the tendency of the state to establishment the entrepreneurship of highest order. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, SET-JETTING IN THE REPUBLIC OF MACEDONIA(MACEDONIAN GEOGRAPHICAL SOCIETY, 2015-09); ;Kitevski, GoranThe paper will highlight the newer alternative form of tourism with it’s possible aspects of enforcement in our country. Besides the basic function of the set-jetting, in the paper will be placed an attempt to deepen the theory of the set-jetting and its function, by setting the factors and potential for creating such alternative value of tourism. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, DYNAMICS AND LEVEL OF DEVELOPMENT OF THE TOURISM SECTOR IN THE REPUBLIC OF MACEDONIA IN CONDITIONS OF TRANSITION AND MARKET ECONOMY(Faculty of Economics, University of Banja Luka, 2014-04); ; Kitevski, GoranAfter the 1991 there’s a period of development of the Republic of Macedonia on the principles of market economy. It is a period of economic transition and structural reforms in all spheres of the economic system and creation of a new integrated market economic system. Tourism, as part of the economic system of the country is evolving in a market conditions, and vast majority of the tourism organizations and enterprises (hotel accommodations, restaurants and other catering and accommodation facilities) are restructured from social to private enterprises; new hotels and other accommodation facilities were built but in most, they are smaller and most of the family business character. It is a very complex and unstable period which brings new changes in the development of the tourism industry, which contributed to the changes in the social sphere (reduction of employment, reduction of the actual amount of salaries etc,...). Therefore, the main objective of this research is to present the dynamics and degree of development of the tourism industry in the country in terms of market economy and the problems and perspectives in the development. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Assessing risk-prone areas in the Kratovska Reka catchment (North Macedonia) by integrating advanced geospatial analytics and flash flood potential index(Walter de Gruyter GmbH, 2024-05-01) ;Aleksova, Bojana; ; ;Marković, Slobodan B.Cvetković, Vladimir M.This study presents a comprehensive analysis of flash flood susceptibility in the Kratovska Reka catchment area of Northeastern North Macedonia, integrating Geographic Information System, remote sensing, and field survey data. Key factors influencing flash flood dynamics, including Slope, Lithology, Land use, and Vegetation index, were investigated to develop the Flash Flood Potential Index (FFPI). Mapping slope variation using a 5-m Digital Elevation Model (DEM) revealed higher slopes in eastern tributaries compared to western counterparts. Lithological units were classified based on susceptibility to erosion processes, with clastic sediments identified as most prone to flash floods. Land use analysis highlighted non-irrigated agricultural surfaces and areas with sparse vegetation as highly susceptible. Integration of these factors into the FFPI model provided insights into flash flood susceptibility, with results indicating a medium risk across the catchment. The average value of the FFPI is 1.9, considering that the values range from 1 to 5. Also, terrains susceptible to flash floods were found to be 49.34%, classified as medium risk. Field survey data validated the model, revealing a significant overlap between hotspot areas for flash floods and high-risk regions identified by the FFPI. An average FFPI coefficient was calculated for each tributary (sub-catchment) of the Kratovska Reka. According to the model, Latišnica had the highest average coefficient of susceptibility to potential flash floods, with a value of 2.16. These findings offer valuable insights for spatial planning and flood risk management, with implications for both local and national-scale applications. Future research directions include incorporating machine learning techniques to enhance modeling accuracy and reduce subjectivity in assigning weighting factors.
