Item type:Publication, Extraction, Distribution and Diversity of Phenolic Compounds in Most Widespread <i>Boraginaceae</i> Species from Macedonia(Wiley, 2023-04-25); ; A systematic study of extraction efficiency of polyphenolic compounds from the most widespread Boraginaceae species was carried out. The optimal extraction was achieved with 50% (V/V) methanol for phenolic acids and flavonoids, 0.2 % (V/V) HCl in 50 % (V/V) methanol for anthocyanins and pure water for flavan-3-ols. The distribution and diversity of polyphenolic compounds in plant material obtained from wild-growing Anchusa officinalis, Cynoglossum creticum Mill., Echium vulgare, Echium italicum, and Onosma heterophylla Griseb. species from Macedonia was also assessed. These widespread Boraginaceae species contain phenolic acid derivatives, flavonoids, flavan-3-ols and anthocyanins and in total 31 of them were identified, from which 22 were first identified in the representative species, and 6,8-di-C-glucosides of apigenin and luteolin were identified for the first time in Boraginaceae. The profiles of polyphenolic compounds for each sample were obtained and their phytochemical profile established. The potential for further bioactivity studies of Anchusa officinalis and Cynoglossum creticum containing up to 24577.05 μg/g and 14304.15 μg/g of total polyphenols were assumed to be highest, followed by Echium vulgare (from 6382.61 to 14114.33 μg/g), Onosma heterophylla (9463.97 μg/g) and Echium (4108.14 μg/g). - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings

Item type:Publication, Blysmo compressi-Eriophoretum latifoliae ass. nova, a new association of the Caricion fuscae alliance from the Sharri Mountains(Pensoft Publishers, 2023-06-15) ;Berisha, Naim ;Ćušterevska, Renata ;Millaku, Fadil<jats:p>The sedge-moss vegetation of the moderately to low calcium-rich slightly acidic fens of the <jats:italic>Caricion fuscae</jats:italic> alliance depends on a very specific combination of ecological and climatic conditions to thrive. Until recently, the classification of this vegetation group was complicated by its rarity on the southern edges of its range in Europe. As part of a larger database of phytocenological relevés carried out in Mt. Luboten, we came across an interesting group of 15 relevés on fen vegetation sites. We were curious to know if this plant community was a previously known association or if it might represent something new within this alliance. We compiled a separate dataset at JUICE that includes four plant communities from this alliance, along with our 15 original releves. The classification was based on modified TWINSPAN and beta-flexible clustering as a numerical classification method, with OPTIMCLASS determining the appropriate number of clusters. Five associations were clearly delineated, with the four associations taken from the literature sources clearly grouped individually and a new, fifth association appearing as separate, with completely unique characteristics. This new association: <jats:italic>Blysmo compressi-Eriophoretum latifoliae</jats:italic> occurs at elevations of ~ 1650 m a.s.l. on NE and NW slopes of the mountain. With this work we offer the description of a new high-mountain fen association. These associations may play an important syntaxonomic role as more Balkan data become available on this alliance. The sedge-moss and fen vegetation in the Balkans is particularly rare and characterised by a very diverse and specific vegetation, so it rightly deserves more attention from vegetation scientists and conservation authorities.</jats:p> - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings

Patients with chronic wounds were affected by these changes and had limited access to professional treatment in hospitals. They were at a higher risk of infection with COVID-19 due to comorbidities and advanced age. The aim of the study was to develop an appropriate protocol for the in-home treatment of chronic wounds due to the COVID-19 pandemic when access to hospitals is limited and the risk of infection for these patients is high. In our case, Hypericum tetrapterum oil extract was applied for four months on a volunteer, a 78-year-old male patient with a chronic wound, additionally infected with Pseudomonas aeruginosa and comorbidities. His healing status was monitored by measuring the wound size and microbiological analysis at certain intervals. The scab of wound DPHR2 (right lower leg chronic wound 2), with its diameters of d1 (40 mm) and d2 (20 mm), fell off after 22 days of the first Hypericum tetrapterum oil extract application. The scab of wound DPHR1 (right lower leg chronic wound 1), with its diameters of d1 (74 mm) and d2 (35 mm), fell off after two and a half months of treatment with Hypericum tetrapterum oil extract. The results of our study indicated that Hypericum tetrapterum oil extract has a significant wound-healing potential and might be used as traditional medicine in the treatment of chronic wounds.
