Introduction/Objective In the first year of COVID-19 pandemic, global prevalence of anxiety and depression increased by a massive 25%, according to the World Health Organization. Objective of the study was to determine the level of depression and insomnia among students in North Macedonia during COVID-19 pandemic. Methods Cross-sectional study was performed among students at the Ss. Cyril and Methodius University in Skopje during May-July of 2021. The anonymous online survey contained questions for sex, age, their opinion, and attitude to COVID-19 infection, if they had any infection/isolation and about physical activity during the pandemic. We used scales for assessment of insomnia (Insomnia Severity Index - ISI) and depression (Patient Health Questionnaire 9 - PHQ-9). Results The study was completed by 355 participants, 28.4% of them had clinically important insomnia scores and almost 47.5% of the participants presented clinically important depression scores. Female and younger participants had higher scores for both scales. A highly statistically significant, positive correlation was detected between ISI and PHQ-9 scores (? = 0.646, p = 4.05?10-43), suggesting that during the examined cross-sectional period of COVID-19 pandemics, depression and insomnia were mutually connected. Conclusions COVID-19 pandemic caused a serious impact on mental health of the population, especially on young people, girls, students, and those who live alone. Therefore, we should be prepared for support and treatment of these vulnerable groups, not only as health care services, but also as educational institutions to give support to students in terms of consultation and motivation.

    The Motivation of Elementary School Teachers for the Implementation of the Distance Learning Concept
    (UNIVERZITET U NOVOM SADU FILOZOFSKI FAKULTET ODSEK ZA PEDAGOGIJU, 2024)
    ;
    At the center of this research is the motivation of the teaching staff for the overall organization and implementation of the distance learning concept in elementary schools. This study's sample consists of 252 teachers, 118 of whom are class teachers and 134 of whom are subject teachers from 11 elementary schools. A questionnaire was used to obtain information about teachers' motivation for implementing the distance learning concept. The data obtained from the research was processed using a descriptive and quantitative method. The chi-square test was used to assess the existence or non-existence of a difference in teachers' answers. Based on the obtained results, it was concluded that a large percentage of the teachers were motivated to realize the concept of distance learning, but also that there is a difference in motivation between teachers with different work experience but not between class and subject teachers.

    THE ROLE OF PARENTS IN SUPPORTING STUDENT ENGAGEMENT IN DIGITAL LEARNING ENVIRONMENTS
    (Faculty of Philosophy, Skopje, 2025-12-26)
    Ikonomoska Nechakovska, Angela
    ;
    This paper examines the role of parents in supporting student engagement in digital learning environments. It analyzes how parental involvement, digital competence, and home–school communication influence students’ behavioral, emotional, and cognitive engagement in online and hybrid learning. The study highlights thatparents increasingly serve as facilitators of technology use, mediators between teachers and students, and organizers of the home learning environment. Their ability to provide technological guidance, structure daily learning routines, and offer emotional and motivational support significantly enhances students’ participation, focus, and learning outcomes in digital settings. Insights from contemporary research and experiences in North Macedonia indicate that parental involvement has become a crucial component of effective digital education. The paper emphasizes the need for educational institutions to strengthen collaboration with families and develop strategies that empower parents to engage confidently and effectively in their children’s digital learning.
