Item type:Publication, APPLYING THE METHODOLOGY DATA ENVELOPMENT ANALYSIS IN THE DEFENCE SECTOR: LITERATURE REVIEW(2017) ;Naumovski, Toni; In solving the problems, decision-makers should take into account the qualitative and the quantitative aspects. The discipline of operational research with its methods and techniques help decision-makers in making better decisions. One of its leading methodologies is the non-parametric methodology data envelopment analysis (DEA), which can be used in evaluating the efficiency of entities (decision-making units – DMUs) that use the same inputs to produce the same outputs. According to the last DEA bibliography published in 2017, from 1978, when the seminal paper of DEA was published, until the end of the 2016, there was rapid increase in the published articles in journals. DEA is applied in various areas: agriculture, defence sector, education, energetics, healthcare, public policy, sport, transportation, etc. In this paper we provide a literature review on the DEA application in the defence sector. Most of the analyzed articles have been published in journals, and we focus on the country where the research was conducted, the observed period, the sample of analysis, the used model, and the application. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, MEASURING THE EFFICIENCY OF PARTICIPATING COUNTRIES IN NATO-LED MISSION IN AFGHANISTAN, ISAF: NON-PARAMETRIC APPROACH(2016); ;Naumovski, ToniThe aim of this paper is to measure the relative efficiency of the participating countries in the ISAF mission in a period of three years (2007-2009) by using the non-parametric approach Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA). A key role in DEA analysis is the selection of inputs and outputs, and in our empirical research two inputs are selected: the total population of each participating country and the GDP per capita of the participating countries, and as output the number of soldiers (troops) of each participating country per rotation is selected. The sample consists of 36 participating countries, i.e., Decision Making Units (DMUs). According to the obtained results it is found that 5 countries (Albania, Estonia, Macedonia, United Kingdom, and the United States) are relative efficient in the whole observed period, while Austria is identified as the least efficient country. In addition, it is shown how relative inefficient countries may improve their efficiency and become relative efficient. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, DEA APPLICATIONS IN THE DEFENSE SECTOR(2016); ;Naumovski, ToniData Envelopment Analysis (DEA) is a non-parametric methodology that can be used to measure the relative efficiency of homogenous entities (Decision Making Units (DMUs)) that use the same inputs to produce the same outputs. Since its introduction in 1978, there has been a notable growth in the published papers where DEA is applied in various areas, such as: education, banking, finance, energetics, agriculture, health care, sport, the defense sector, etc. The aim of this paper is to present the application of DEA in the defense sector. 15 studies published in the period between 1983 and 2014 are analyzed. The emphasis in the analyzed studies is on the observed period, the sample, the used variables, the models, and the obtained results. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, THE APPLICATION OF THE NON-PARAMETRIC METHODOLOGY DEA: THE CASE OF THE REPUBLIC OF NORTH MACEDONIA(University of Belgrade, Faculty of Organizational Sciences, Belgrade, Serbia, 2019) ;Naumovski, Toni; The application of the analytical methods and techniques of the Operational Research discipline can help in making better decisions, which thus allow decrease of costs, increase of revenue and profit, as well as market share, efficiency, etc. The non-parametric methodology Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) is considered to be the leading methodology for measuring the relative efficiency of the Decision Making Units (DMUs). The DMUs should be homogeneous, i.e. they should use the same inputs to produce the same outputs. Ever since its beginnings up to today, the application of this methodology has noted a significant growth. It has been used in education, health care, banking, agriculture, the defence sector, energetics, tourism, sports, supply chain, transportation, public policy, etc. The aim of this paper is to provide a literature review of the application of DEA in the Republic of North Macedonia. On the basis of the reviewed papers published in journals and conference proceedings, books, Master’s theses and Doctoral dissertations, it has been confirmed that this methodology is most commonly used in the finance sector. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
