The symptomatology varies according to the location of the tumor, however most are isolated and non-symptomatic. Rarely, pilomatrixoma can become malignant after the age of twenty. Tumor size over 10cm increases the possibility of malignant alteration. Complete surgical excision of the tumor is recommended. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Topical treatment of minor facial burns in pediatric patients(2017); ;Risto Simeonov; ;Vladimir ChadikovskiIntroduction Inguinal hernias have been treated traditionally with conventional methods, but the trends have changed with the introduction of minimal access surgery. The study aims to compare the open technique versus laparoscopic assisted technique of percutaneous closure of the internal inguinal(PIRS).Materials and methods: The study is done at the University Clinic for Pediatric Surgery in Skopje in the period 2016/17. There are analyzed 30 female children aged 1-14 years with clinically diagnosed indirect inguinal hernia. Results: The average duration of the intervention in the experimental or control group was 25,1 ± 6,1 v.s 44,8 ± 6,3 minutes. The length of hospital stay in the two groups is consequently 10,7 ± 2,1 v.s 25,2 ± 3,3 hours. The shortest stay was 8 v.s 24 hours and the longest 17 v.s 26 hours. All children in the experimental group took up a normal position in bed for less than 3 hours compared to the control group in which it accounted for 5 hours. The average length of the mark is 1,9 ± 0,9mm in the test and 24,8 ± 17,4mm in the control group. Analgesia because of pain is given in 3 (20%) children in the test group and on 7 (46,6%) in control group. Easy impressive scar have 8 (53,3%) patients in the control group and no patient in the experimental group. The mark does not disturb the aesthetics in 9(60%) of patients in the experimental group and in 2 (13,3%) in the control group. Conclusion: Laparoscopic assisted technique of percutaneous closure of the internal inguinal ring is minimally invasive method and is totally safe for the treatment of inguinal hernias in children with special advantage for females. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Acute appendicitis during the COVID-19 pandemic versus before pandemic period in Republic of North Macedonia(2022-10-13); ; Background: The Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has impacted the outcomes of acute appendicitis. Aim: The aim of the study was to compare the characteristics of acute appendicitis (AA) in children before and during the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods: A cross sectional study was conducted at the University Clinic for pediatric surgery in Skopje, Republic of North Macedonia, between January 2019 and September 2020. We elaborated children aged ≤14 years diagnosed with AA and treated at our clinic before / during COVID-19 period. The time from the first symptoms to hospitalization, incidence of complications, type of intervention, duration of hospital stay, and postoperative use of antibiotics were compared between the two groups. Results: A total of 328 children with appendectomies were included in the study – 197 (60,1%) before (Group 1) and 131 (39,9%) during COVID 19 pandemic (Group 2). No significant differences was found between the groups related to gender (p=0,341) and age (p=0,475). The time from the first symptoms to hospitalization (p=0,031), complications (p=0,044) and use of antibiotic treatment (p=0,028) were significantly associated with Group 2. No association between the groups and AA type of intervention was found (p=0,191). Conclusion: Even with lower incidence, appendectomies in children during Covid 19 pandemic had increased rate of complications, prolonged hospitalization, and higher antibiotic use. Reason for these findings is important to be investigating, as pandemic conditions should be taken into account in children health interventions. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
