    Media Framing: How Can the Constitutional Name of One Country Be Changed?
    (Polish Communication Association, 2020-07-21)
    ;
The Macedonian-Greek agreement to change the name of the Republic of Macedonia resulted in a referendum. The columns of relevant opinion leaders published in electronic media during the official referendum campaign was the focus of interest and research presented in this article. The sample comprised 57 columns by 19 columnists. The discussion of the findings in this paper is based on framing theory with media content analyses; the template for media monitoring was used as an instrument based on human coding. The main research question addressed in this paper is: “How are opinion leaders setting frames?” The hypothesis is that opinion leaders use different themes and scripts to construct media framing due to narrow public opinion “for” or “against/boycott” the change of the constitutional name. Two negative, emotionally charged frames were identified: the frame “for” promoted positive messages reinforced with ideas about the EU and NATO membership; the frame “against/boycott” promoted messages that Macedonian identity will be lost.

    EMOTIONAL PROCESSION OF ARTICLES CONTENTS IN THE MACEDONIAN MEDIA
    (Institute for Sociological, Political and Juridical Research, 2015-11-12)
    ;
    Markovikj Marijana
    Macedonia will remember 2015 as a year of long term political crisis. It was a year of intensive activity against the actual Government. There were “opposition bombs”, disclosed incriminating phone calls, strikes in education, mass protests, camping in front of the Government and the Parliament, police action against terrorist in Kumanovo, migrant crisis .... The understanding of the start and the end points of the crisis largely depend on individual perception created as a result of personal experience and experience mediated through offline networks, online networks and media. Beside diversity of the events in surrounding there is also a difference in style of processing or living own emotions (feeling them, expressing them, understanding them). This research focusses on how students process emotions provoked by news /media stories on the events connected to the above mentioned critical political events. Students from Faculty of Philosophy, University “Ss. Cyril and Methodius” voluntary accepted to take part in this research. Two research instruments were used: questioner for the evaluation of the media content and their influence on respondent’s emotions and Emotional Processing Scale (EPS) for nature of processing emotions. The research design provides quantitative and qualitative analysis. This study showed that anger, fear and rage are dominantly provoked by negative emotions which are unprocessed or there is avoidance of coping with them (the two unhealthy ways of emotional processing).

    SHAPING AND MODELING PERSONALITY IN PROCESS OF LONG LASTING TRANSITION-CASE OF THE REPUBLIC OF MACEDONIA
    (Goce Delcev University, Shtip, Republic of Macedonia, 2016)
    ;
    The years of socio-economic and political transition in the Republic of Macedonia were characterized with: rising ethnic tensions, refugee crisis, transformation of the political system and political ideology, and the introduction of political pluralism. Macedonia faced interethnic tensions which escalated with the war conflict in 2001. There were more or less other problems with neighbors which were related with the identity of Macedonian nation and Macedonian state. During the period of more than 15 years (1999-2015), Psychological laboratory at the Institute for Sociological Political and Juridical Research (ISPJR) -Skopje has implemented several surveys which purpose was to indentify the process of psychological transformation of the citizens under the influence of politically motivated events. Analyses showed that politically motivated factors of stress can influence changes in the psychological processes as: perception, competence for moral judgment, identity, social attitudes, (authoritarianism) and political ideology. And, at the end, changes in the political culture bring new shape of the average personality profile. Findings showed that citizens’ average personality profiles can be shaped as a result of long lasting changes in society. The new generations of individuals become more self oriented and less prepared to participate in collective initiatives.

    Hierarchies of Identities in the Macedonian Multicultural Society: Findings from a Survey of Student Population
    (THE EUROPEAN RESEARCH GROUP ON POLITICAL ATTITUDES AND MENTALITIES (The EPAM Research Group), 2016-04)
    Hristova, Lidija
    ;
    In multicultural societies as the Macedonian one, the attachment of citizens to particular identity traits is important for the democratic stability and peace. The aim of this paper is to find out how students from different ethnic origins in the R. Macedonia relate to their identity traits, especially to their national and ethnic identities, and relative to other identity traits. The basic assumptions are based on a phenomenon called "minority effect", according to which members of minority groups tend to attach greater importance to minority affiliations that are particularly important for their group identity (language, religion, ethnicity, tradition, etc.). Aside from importance of identity traits, the emotional and behavioural components of these attachments were also examined. The research results show that regardless of the ethnic origin, students attach greatest importance to their identities connected to their immediate social environment (family, friends), but also religion. In accordance with the “minority effect” hypothesis, religion and then ethnicity, are perceived by the ethnic Albanians as a strong cohesive and mobilising factor, whereas that is not the case with the ethnic Macedonians. When it comes to nationality, the responses suggest that for ethnic Albanians it has marginal importance (through the cognitive, emotional and the action component), while ethnic Macedonians show controversial relation to their national identity.

    Professional stress in social workers and psychologists employed in the field of social care and health
    (Institute for sociological, political and juridical research, Skopje, 2016)
    ;
    ;
    Professional stress of persons working in helping professions (social workers, psychologists) is insufficiently researched in our country, which reduces the possibility of taking measures to prevent occupational “burn out". On the other hand, the significant socio-economic and political changes in the country have led to an increase in the number of people who face social risks, which inevitably increased the workload of persons from helping professions. In order to establish the situation with professional stress in these occupations in a time span of ten years were carried out two identical surveys. Two instruments were used: list of general data and Scale for measuring professional stress (Weissman, 1996). The obtained data showed an increase in the number of professionals (social workers and psychologists) with high level of professional stress, risk of “burn out” as a result of the increased volume of work engagement. The results of this study could be used in planning future research but also as a basis for planning and preparing programs for rehabilitation and prevention of occupational stress in Individuals working in helping professions.

    PERSONAL EXPERIENCING OF THE MACEDONIAN EPIC FOLK SONGS
    (INSTITUTE FOR SOCIOLOGICAL, POLITICAL AND JURIDICAL RESEARCH UNIVERSITY “Ss. CIRYL AND METHODIUS” - SKOPJE, 2016)
    ;
    In the course of the past centuries, the Macedonian folk song embraced all significant moments of the lives of the Macedonian people. These songs pay tribute to the years of servitude, resistance, military feats, whether individual or group, spontaneous or organized. Throughout the conducted research, the question we focused on was whether these Macedonian songs created in the course of the 19th century -period of active struggle for liberation and independence of the Macedonian nation; evoke feelings of patriotism among the young in contemporary time when the Republic of Macedonia has acquired its sovereignty and independence. For the purpose of determining the influence of music on the emotions, and identifying the emotions, thoughts, ideas and behavior ‘touched upon’ and evoked by the Macedonian epic folk song, experimental research was conducted. The experiment was realized in a time period of 2 hours with a group of 18 students that participated on a voluntary basis. The findings from the analysis of the emotions experienced by the respondents in the experiment indicate that the respondents can identify the different emotions, thoughts and ideas embodied in two popular Macedonian epic folk songs. Hence, these epic songs (especially when listened with lyrics) not only evoke negative emotions but cause negative thoughts and ideas as well. In this sense, the main conclusion is that the Macedonian epic folk songs created in 19th century still “‘touch upon” the present generations.

    The Role of Macedonian Folk Songs Featured in Macedonian Films in Amplifying the Emotions
    (Musicologist, 2019-06-30)

    Macedonian folk songs, as a part of Macedonian traditions and culture, represent an integral part of Macedonian history marked by resistance, military feats, and tendencies for maintaining the Macedonian national identity. This paper is focused on the issue of whether two Macedonian folk songs With Torments I was Born and Listen Patriots created in the course of the 19th century – a period marked with active struggle for liberation and independence of the Macedonian nation – additionally intensify the emotions provoked by the storyline and action of the films, in which they have been incorporated. During the research process, the authors of the paper used the mechanism of cognitive appraisal as a model for content analysis, as well as psychological and ethnomusicological analysis of the resulting data. The units of content analysis were the sequences of scenes of the film, in which the two Macedonian folk songs were used. The selected songs and films, as well as the interaction between the sound and visual senses, clearly present the deep relationship between music and emotions in a specific, identity-related context. The findings of the study are in favor of the thesis that Macedonian folk songs, created as a result of the centuries-old struggle of the Macedonian people, when used in Macedonian films, intensify the patriotic emotions of the viewers and strengthen the concept of uniqueness in the Macedonian identity, due to the processes of repetition and revitalization of collective memories.

    DISCOURSE OF EMOTIONS IN THE COLUMNS IN THE INTERNET MEDIA IN THE PERIOD BEFORE THE REFERENDUM ON CHANGING THE CONSTITUTIONAL NAME OF REPUBLIC OF MACEDONIA
    (The Faculty of Law, Goce Delchev University in Shtip, Republic of Macedonia, 2019)
    ;
    On 17 June 2018, the Republic of Macedonia and the Republic of Greece signed the Prespa Agreement that closed the long-standing dispute about the name of the Republic of Macedonia. The government then decided to hold a consultative referendum, and the campaign, although unofficial, has already begun. By September 30th, when the referendum was scheduled in the media, numerous personalities appeared: journalists, professors, writers, civil activists, experts from various fields, as well as holders of political functions in the role of columnists, called by the media to say their opinion and position on the change of the constitutional name of their country. The survey is an attempt to see who people were signed on the texts entitled as columns in the period from the signing of the Prespa Agreement to the day of the referendum vote in electronic versions of newspapers, as well as internet portals /information websites; from which sphere of professional life they come; by which dynamic their texts appear; and with which discourse of emotion they try to influence the opinion of the audience. The analysis showed that readers of internet portals witnessed a large number of expert opinions in the research period, and most of them were with negative emotional charge, so there is a dilemma about the loss of the value of the column and its potential positive benefits in making such important decisions for a nation, such as the change of the state name.

    Human Resource Management in Small and Medium-sized Enterprises: Recent Developments and Emerging Issues
    (Institute for Sociological, Political and Juridical Research Ss. Cyril and Methodius University in Skopje, 2016)
    Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are backbone of the national economies and represent a source of entrepreneurial skills and predominant growth model. The contribution of SMEs is also confirmed at the job level and in the creation of gross value added. In developing economies, most SMEs are facing with unfavorable external economic and social conditions and extreme forms of institutional upheaval. At the same time they have poor internal capacity that impedes their growth and competitiveness. In this sense, the biggest challenge for SMEs is how to achieve a sustainable growth. The competitiveness and the improved business performance can be built up through internal resources, namely the human resources (HR). Despite the recognition of the importance of human factor in firm growth, entrepreneurs/owner-managers do not pay attention to the development of the HR function in their organizations. SMEs are more focused on the portfolio of expertise of technology and production processes than investing in specific abilities, knowledge, skills, and motivational profile of the employees. On the other hand, the centralization of distinctive skills in one or few people creates managerial rigidity that limits learning abilities and innovation. Typically, the processes of managing human resources are not systematically planned but are rather reactive. This paper highlights human resource management (HRM) issues in SMEs, discusses the challenges related to HRM in SMEs and makes a critical analysis in Macedonian context.
