Item type:Publication, Скопје од идолумот на архитект Живко Поповски(Institute of Macedonian Literature - Skopje, 2019)Мери Батакоја“Idolum” is the inner world, the world of ideas, where the idea is understood as to belong in the subjective, spiritual domain, domain of the fantasies and believes, rationalizations and anticipations. “Idolum” by its meaning is close to “utopia”, because it offers us similar (if not the same!) escapism from the real world. When the reality becomes too complex and overwhelming to be able to face it, we seek escape in our inner worlds; in our inner worlds we also collect and sort facts from the everyday life filtering them to project a new and better outer world. Inspired by the “The Story of Utopia” by Lewis Mumford, this paper summarizes the depictions of the city of Skopje in the theoretical work of architect Zivko Popovski, which from today’s point of view carry the overtone of utopia. We can grade the philosophical stance of Popovski on Skopje and architecture in general as highly humanistic, because it outlines ecology and health, human rights and freedom as the most important among all other systems of our civilization. The main goal of this paper is to precisely and comprehensively draw out the contours of the possible city of Skopje from the idolum of the architect Zivko Popovski and to promote the important ideas for our city as: caring for the city’s naked body (understanding the natural laws of homeland, treatment of river waters, slopes and terraces, green belts, parks), care for the city's remembrance and the creation of memory landscapes, a necessary set of habits and values of the architects and citizens of Skopje, etc. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Културолошките аспекти во теоретското творештво на архитект Живко Поповски : Мислевме дека можеме да живееме заборавајќи(2017)Мери БатакојаAs an announcement of the book To Skopje With Love - Architectural Thought of Živko Popovski, this paper represents the most specific aspects of his theoretical work, recognizing them as extremely important to the cultural context of Macedonian architecture. His theoretical oeuvre, in official terms, is consisted of nearly seventy articles about architecture that are presently unavailable for the public due to their dispersion through national, regional and international architectural journals, literature and cultural journals, daily newspapers, faculty collections, private archives, etc. Because of that, our culture is deprived from these rare and direct testimonies of the development of the Macedonian architecture throughout nearly five decades, as well as from his own highly sensitized statements. The material aspects of one architectural opus are inseparable from the intangibility of architectural thought, so this book to come, has the goal to sensitize the Macedonian cultural world to consider architectural thought as cultural heritage, by which we remember, we graft and we communicate cultural values and upgrade one culture in continuity. In the context of his theoretical work, we must underline that Živko Popovski is also a pioneering editor of the first Macedonian architectural journal for culture of space “A:” which mobilized the Macedonian progressive architectural discourse. He is also one of the founders of the subject Architectural Theory and Research in the Faculty of Architecture in Skopje, which defines the architecture as an intellectual discipline that deeply reflects the cultural processes of the Macedonian society.
