Item type:Publication, Small-scale physical modelling of slope failures in sands(University for Business and Technology, 2018-10-27) ;Tasevska, M.; Josifovski, J.This paper deals with small-scale physical and numerical calculation of slope stability. The aim is to define the critical slope angle at which failure occurs. The slope is constructed from material used in tailings dam construction. Many laboratory tests have been made to determine the physical and mechanical properties of the soil. The analyzed results show that the material is classified as silty sand. The first physical model refers to infinite slope with 45° slope angle under loaded conditions which represent an upslope extension. The second model wasn’t subjected to an external load, but raised upward to increase the slope angle until failure. The results show that the first slope fails when 13 kPa external load was applied. In the second case the failure occurs for 62° slope angle. A shallow slope failure occurs in both cases. To better understand the slope failure mechanism in such materials and to obtain more objective and reliable soil parameters for further investigation, a beck analysis method was used. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Experimental and numerical analysis to determine the uplift capacity of piles in gravels(Wiley, 2018-06) ;ABAZI, Sead;
Abstract
This paper describes the process of testing and design of tension piles as fundaments of air‐supported structures for sports facilities. Two piles with different ratio between diameter and length are tested on axial static tensile load for designing purposes. The results are later compared with FEM numerical model. The obtained ultimate uplift capacity from site experiments is confirmed with the numerical model. The results from the numerical analysis regarding the shear and normal interface stresses are used to determine the soil‐pile friction angle δ. At the end, artificial neural networks were used to predict the uplift bearing capacity of piles with different geometry and soil conditions.
- Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings

Item type:Publication, Overcoming the Coincidence Effect of a Single Panel by Introducing and Tuning Locally Resonant Structures(Institute of Noise Control Engineering, 2019-06) ;Jovanoska, Milica ;Godinho, Luís ;Amado-Mendes, Paulo ;Mareze, Paulo HenriquePereira, MatheusThe acoustic performance of partition walls is usually based either in their mass or in a layered structure, including materials with different properties (external layers and internal absorbing materials, for example). In recent years, the consideration of additional dynamic effects in the behaviour of such systems has been used to improve their performance. Among these new proposals, metamaterials are a promising possibility. In this paper, numerical and experimental analyses were carried out in order to investigate the sound transmission loss of a single particle board with periodically attached spring-mass resonators. The resonators were materialized by 3D printing and designed to achieve resonant frequency in the coincidence region of the panel. Both, numerical and experimental results showed that the resonance mode of the spring-mass resonators couples with the plate vibration in the way of breaking the mass law and overcoming the coincidence effect throughout the formation of a band gap in the desired frequency region. Therefore, this metamaterial design can serve as an effective solution for increasing the sound transmission loss of the panel. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Design of Earthship for Climate Conditions in Macedonia(IOP Publishing, 2019-09-01); ;Salih, Nena ;Grujoska, VesnaJovanoska, Milica
Abstract
The Earthship, as a sustainable nearly zero house, built of natural and recycled materials, represents one of the solutions for the numerous environmental issues. A specific location is chosen by the Lake Ohrid in Macedonia. The house is designed for a single family, with dimensions and materials selected according to recommendations in the literature. It is not connected to the public infrastructural network, reducing its dependence on public services and the use of fossil fuels. It is built of natural and recycled materials, having thermal solar heating and cooling, collection and storage of rain water, controlled wastewater treatment, power from sun or wind and food self-production. Static and dynamic analysis has been performed and stability in this highly seismic region is confirmed, followed by the analysis of the energy efficiency and bill of quantities. This design meets the passive house criteria and the planned investment is considerably lower in comparison to a passive house built of “standard” building materials. The potential benefits of this designed Earthship might have an impact in the future building construction and architecture in Macedonia, especially for suburbs. They might help raise people’s awareness of the benefits of sustainable architecture: reduction of the greenhouse gas emission, saving fresh water reserves by harvesting rainwater and reusing it as grey water, controlling the micro climate of the suburban areas by using energy efficient materials and choosing the right location for building.
- Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
