Item type:Publication, RE-THINKING SECURITY THROUGH THE PRISM OF THE SECURITY STUDIES APPROACH(University “St. Kliment Ohridski”- Bitola Faculty of Security- Skopje, 2022-09-26)Pavleski, AleksandarSecurity is a variable category. What makes people and states safe or feel safe depends upon two basic phenomena. The most obvious source of challenge to our security is a factor that threatens the values of the people and the values of the state. The first and most objective of these are physical threats, such as military threats. The second phenomenon is related to the interpretation of the impact of the environment on the security meaning, or how the environment influences perceptions and interpretations of security and insecurity as well. The focus of the paper analysis is on exploring different security interpretations, specifically through the prism of the four generations of security studies. Actually, such four generations of security studies provide the necessary theoretical framework for comprehensive analysis in this regard. Hence, the paper is analyzing the evolutionary nature of security understanding in a variety of historical and environmental aspects. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, THE EU STRATEGIC APPROACH TO SECURITY(University Ss. Cyril and Methodius in Skopje, 2025-12-16)Pavleski, AleksandarOver the past three decades, the EU has undertaken a wide range of activities aimed at its proliferation as a serious and respected security actor. Namely, in 1993 the Union adopted the Common Foreign and Security Policy, then, in 1998, it laid the foundations of the European Security and Defense Policy, while in 2003 it adopted the first security strategy, by which practically began the development process of its strategic approach to security. Starting from the significance that strategic aspects have in security approaches designing (at national, regional and international levels), the paper attention is directed to the analysis of the strategic approach of the European Union in this regard. To this end, the focus is specifically placed on the research of the three strategic documents to date (2003, 2016 and 2022), with which the Union designs its own strategic approach and response to the dynamic and challenging security environment. Hence, the intention is aimed at providing a clear perception and a more detailed understand of the evolutionary character of the EU’s strategic approach to security, with particular reference to the main challenges and perspectives in this context. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, The nexus between human security and human rights(Uniwersytet Jagiellonski - Wydawnictwo Uniwersytetu Jagiellonskiego, 2023-09-29)Pavleski, AleksandarThe expansion and deepening of security have initiated the emergence of new concepts, which, among other things, have enabled new ways of understanding and interpreting threats and risks in the security sphere. Human security is one of the new concepts that are becoming part of the security strategies of many countries, despite still-present dilemmas, especially over its practical significance and usability. This paper explores the interrelationship between human security and human rights, starting from the reference object towards which both are directed; that is, the individual. On the one hand, it explores the placement and meaning of human rights in the concept of human security, also enabling its greater concretization; on the other, it analyses the meaning and impact this concept has and should have in promoting and protecting human rights. Hence, the main thesis is that the human security concept has a greater chance of being more widely accepted and more effective when based on human rights, and that human rights are more likely to be protected and respected if treated as part of human security. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, The Societal Security Understanding Through the Contemporary Risks and Threats(University of Applied Sciences Velika Gorica, 2023-11-30)Pavleski, AleksandarThe expansion and deepening of the security concept, has initiated emergence and increase of the importance of new types of security, new security actors, new reference security objects, etc., in the past 30 years. As a result, there is a consensus among the research and academic community today, about the fact that security is a variable category whose understanding and interpretation is dependent on a number of different aspects and point of views. Within the framework of the new expanded and deepened understanding of security, the concept of the so-called societal security occupies a significant place. The focus of the paper is specifically directed to the analysis of the characteristics and essence of societal security, as well as to the analysis of contemporary risks and threats to this type of security. In this regard, the purpose of the paper analysis is aimed in detection of the (structural) risks and threats to societal security and in investigating whether and how they can become a national security issue, especially in multi-ethnic or on various other grounds divided societies. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, APPLYING NEGOTIATION PROCESS – THEORETICAL AND PRACTICAL UNDERSTANDINGS(Faculty of Philosophy, Skopje, 2025-06-26)Pavleski, AleksandarThere is no doubt that conflicts (violent or non-violent) are an integral part of the relations between different actors at both, the national, regional and international levels. Starting from this conclusion, there is an inevitable need for applying appropriate strategies and approaches that will enable their efficient and successful management and resolution. It is exactly from such aspect that the significance of the negotiation process arises as an instrument for peaceful resolution of open issues or disputes, through the establishment and realization of communication between the opposing parties. However, as the experience to date in this regard shows, the realization of the negotiation process is not always established and realized in accordance with the projected visions. Hence, the focus of this paper is specifically directed towards the analysis of the negotiation process essence, mainly through the prism of some of the existing theoretical and practical aspects in this regard. Specifically, by analyzing the characteristics of the basic elements, phases and models of the negotiation process, the aim is closer identification of the main challenges and perspectives related to the applicability of the negotiation process. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
