The trans-lycopene content of fresh tomato homogenates was assessed by means of the laser photoacoustic spectroscopy, the laser optothermal window, micro-Raman spectroscopy, and colorimetry; none of these methods require the extraction from the product matrix prior to the analysis. The wet chemistry method (high-performance liquid chromatography) was used as the absolute quantitative method. Analytical figures of merit for all methods were compared statistically; best linear correlation was achieved for the chromaticity index a* and chroma C*.

Antimicrobial effect of oregano-chitosan double coatings on Listeria monocytogenes in meat products
    (IOP Publishing Ltd, 2019)
Mojsova, Sandra; Angelovski, Ljupco; Jankuloski, Dejan; Simonovska, Jana and Velickova Elena
The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of oregano and chitosan applied as edible coatings on the chemical and microbiological properties of different type of meat products. The main focus from the microbiological aspect was on Listeria monocytogenes as a pathogen that can survive for a long period on this type of product and, hence, present a risk for consumers. In vitro testing showed chemical quality after 7 and 14 days’ storage of the three types of products was stable. Promising results were obtained for the microbial analysis, whereby large reductions in L. monocytogenes numbers after 7 and 14 days’ storage at 4°C was measured in the coated products. The results indicated the chitosan and oregano combination can be an effective inhibitor of L. monocytogenes growth in chilled meat products.

Analysis of Some Undesirable Effects in Industrial Exhaust Dyeing of Knitted Fabrics of Different Grade of Cotton with Reactive Dyes
    (Tekstil, 2012)
    Emilija Toshikj, Biljana Mangovska,
Dyeing of knitted fabrics from different grades of cotton in industrial conditions by a single recipe with bi-functional reactive dyes has been investigated in order to estimate the efficiency and reproducibility of the process. Quality control in different stages of the process was followed through the content of the non-cellulose components, alkaline and alkaline earth elements in raw and scoured cotton, the hydrophilic properties, and CIELab coordinates, color difference between different batch dyeing, purity of the electrolyte as well as the quality of the water through permanent hardness, temporary bicarbonates hardness, alkaline, earth-alkaline and heavy metal ions. Black dyed fabrics had high variance coefficients of AE*, indicating shade variations and unacceptable color levelness and reproducibility. Enzymatic scouring, quality of the raw cotton, water and electrolyte have significant influence on the dyed fabrics.

Influence of Multiple Laundering on Cotton Shirts Properties
    (Tekstil ve Konfeksiyon, 2016-01)
Emilija Toshikj, Igor Jordanov, Goran Demboski, Biljana Mangovska
White and light colored cotton men's shirts were submitted to multiple laundering with two different detergents under the same washing conditions. Powder detergent contained bleaching agent and optical brightening agents while the liquid one did not. Changes after 25 washing cycles were analyzed through mechanical, comfort and aesthetic properties and ash content. Mechanical properties were studied by measuring tensile strength and tensile elongation, comfort by air permeability and thickness and aesthetic properties by whiteness index and CIELab coordinates. Shirts laundered whith powder detergent showed higher thickness, mechanical properties and ash content and lower air permeability compared to shirts laundered with liquid detergent. White shirts laundered with powder detergent showed higher whiteness index compared to shirts laundered with liquid detergent. Colored shirts laundered with powder detergent were lighter (higher ΔL*) and showed higher fading (higher ΔE*) compared to shirts laundered with liquid detergent.
