The aim is to present the significance of state sovereignty trough a theoretical overview and analysis of the important concept in the realm of political theory - the notion of sovereignty. Also the paper will seek to create a comprehensive but easily understandable definition of sovereignty and its importance in international relations, especially in recognition of states. In this respect, the paper will clarify the concept of sovereignty, taking into consideration the transformations and challenges of the international security environment at the beginning of the 21st century. The paper presents the issue of state sovereignty in the field of international relations, where states, although theoretically equal among themselves, are hierarchically ranked according to their national performances which are eventually converted into power at the international level. It is analyzed, based on exploring the existing literature in the area of interest and with the help of direct observation, how the independent and sovereign states are able to integrate themselves into the international political context.

The impact of the coronavirus crisis on climate action: lessons learned for the governments

The article presents theoretical-descriptive analysis of lessons learned for the governments due pandemic caused from Covid-19 that has impact on climate change. The world is living through the biggest pandemic and carbon crash ever recorded. During the quarantine period in 2020, traffic has almost disappeared in many cities around the world. Multiple sources indicate that the Earth and the state’s overall is now living through an unrivalled drop in carbon output. The global response shows that states can take immediate, radical emergency measures to protect the human lives and well-being of all. Many climate researchers are optimistic that this deadly pandemic has taught governments some critical lessons that they can apply to the problem of rising temperatures. The article points out the lessons learned around global cooperation during the Covid-19 pandemic, that have to be applied to urgent global efforts on climate action.

Public Policy and the Response to Covid-19

The paper analyses the latest developments of the impact of scientific and technical expertise in public policy-making on how to deal with the effects of the pandemic. The authors explore the reasons why the same public policies give quite different results in dealing with the dynamics of the pandemic in different countries and regions. Following the William N. Dunn’s model of public policy analysis, the global response to the pandemic shows that there is an urgent need for new policy decisions and reconsideration of the effects of non-decisions. We also explore how the policy responses for change and adaptation to the pandemic have been formulated and delivered to the public and how the narratives and emotions can influence public behaviour in times of crisis. We conclude by stressing the fact that public policies are not static and should be reformulated on the basis of changing circumstances, needs and experience created by crisis.

Information, as well as freedom of expression and freedom of the media are essential for democratic society and fundamental characteristic of modern states. The year 2020 will be remembered as a year of pandemic caused from Covid-19 (coronavirus) and a year of response to unexpected challenge that the spread of the virus caused. In the times of pandemic and any type of crisis, the media always plays a key role in informing the public all over the Globe. This paper aims to make theoretical descriptive research and analysis of the influence of coronavirus on news consumption, the role of media in communication and presentation of important developments during pandemic. The authors present an overview of the media system and the latest developments in the EU in preventing fake news related to the pandemic. We conclude that media plays key role in informing the citizens during pandemic and therefore they have increased responsibility in providing reliable information. At the same time, since the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic, the media have been challenged with parallel outbreaks of disinformation and misinformation about the virus, ranging from fake coronavirus cures, false claims and harmful health advice to wild conspiracy theories. Disinformation can in turn speed up the spread of disease, hinder effective public health responses, as well as create confusion, fear and distrust. We highlight the fundamental function of creating awareness regarding the topic based on facts, and the need of media for preventing panic and fostering people’s understanding by ‘checking the source and information twice’.
