Conference: GEOPOLITICAL AND GEOSTRASTEGIC POSITION OF THE REPUBLIC OF MACEDONIA AMIDST THE MIGRANTS AND REFUGEE CRISIS
Abstract: Migration and migratory movements are an interdisciplinary subject with whom are dealing the political science, sociology, economics, international relations, science whose subject is international security and terrorism etc. Syrian crisis of 2011 gаve а fertile ground for analysis of all these aspects, especially from the perspective of policies that individual countries are conveying to migrants which in huge numbers are coming to Europe. The Syrian crisis represents the biggest migratory stress in the recent history of Europe and the Middle East. Huge waves that has set off to run on route to the final destination - Western Europe, has not bypassed or Macedonia which is found as a transit country on the Balkan route, through which passed not only refugees from the crisis flashpoints in Syria and Iraq, but also a huge number economic migrants who used the crisis as an opportunity for economic migration to more promising countries such as Germany. In this sense, the Republic of Macedonia has implemented the policy of open doors for the stream of refugees and economic migrants to the north, but when Austria closed its borders in early 2016, followed by a domino effect throughout the region, and the Republic of Macedonia was forced to do the same to protect against potential security risks that would arise from the absorption of excessive number of migrants on its territory. The purpose of this paper is through debate related to the ethics of migration, to weigh the pros and cons and through it to try to answer the question why Macedonia was left with no choice and had to act in ways that create a barrier to refugees receiving them on its territory. The analysis of the arguments conspire open door policy against those who conspire policy barriers to migrants an excellent theoretical basis for understanding the position of the Republic of Macedonia in order to prove the main assertion of this paper, and it is that in a situation in which it was put the Republic of Macedonia, she had no choice but to implement a policy of closing its borders, which was set as a necessity. However to understand the whole debate over the ethics of migration, we should first give a brief overview of the genesis and especially the consequences of the Syrian crisis, which gives an account of the seriousness of the crisis and its scope. From this position analysis of the arguments for and against an open door policy towards migrants seem more informed, which through theoretical exchange of arguments on both sides can draw conclusions about the specific nature of the Syrian crisis and to find arguments to understand the position of the Republic of Macedonia for closed- door policy which at some point had to apply to migrants.
