Скопје: Економски факултет, УКИМ. | Abstract: | Business/ICT alignment is one of the major challenges constantly emphasized by IT managers worldwide. A number of studies done in the past confirm that the goal for achieving higher levels of business/ICT alignment remains a key issue. The Association for Information Management in cooperation with various research institutions has confirmed the existence of this issue through numerous studies conducted in the past few decades. Their studies have confirmed the importance of business/ICT alignment as a core problem in the industry practice. This doctoral thesis contains two main constitutive parts: the theoretical and empirical framework. Within the theoretical framework is given a good theoretical overview of the most important discoveries in the field of business ICT alignment and its relationship with organizational performance. This section discusses the different types of conceptualizations of the phenomenon of business/ICT alignment, in addition to presenting various theories on this phenomenon, methods for measuring the level of alignment, and models linking the level of alignment with organizational performance. Furthermore, the empirical framework describes the research design and gives the main results obtained through four research studies. The main goal of the research studies was to cover some of the main gaps in the current literature on business/ICT alignment. The focus of all four studies is mainly studying the social dimension of alignment at the operational level between the business and IT sector in the banking and telecommunications industry.
