Abstract: Business associations and commercial chambers are important stakeholders in the development of economies because of their nature, the meaning of their role and the activities they perform in the area of institutional development. There are two models of commercial chambers - the Anglo-Saxon model and the Continental model. In order to draw a clearer picture of the work and the significance the Economic Chamber of Macedonia bears, especially in terms of serving as an advisory body and a consultant to businesses on matters related to laws or bylaws important to the design of the Republic of Macedonia's economic policy, the emphasis is placed on the micro- and macro-economic positioning of the ECM. The cooperation with institutions from the Republic of Macedonia and abroad is of special interest, and emphasis is placed on international aspects i.e. the international connectedness, exchange and cooperation among chambers of commerce. Regarding the international aspects, the sharing of information through forms of international cooperation with foreign chambers of commerce and with European and global institutions is highlighted, together with their direct influence on the ECM's operations and indirect influence on trade companies. The factor analysis of the method business associations use to formulate goals, the choice of strategy of a business association, and the execution of the strategy and the overall control of the process are used to show how business associations function from the very beginning and the type of activities they undertake to achieve their goals and address the needs and requirements of trade companies. The thesis underlines the contribution of the management, at all levels, to the business associations’ work in terms of development and continuous education of the human capital, and gives an assessment of the capacities of and needs for training in business associations in order to curb negative aspects and improve the performance of key stakeholders in processes.
