Abstract: The chapter explores the extent of non-standard employment contracts and their integration into the social protection system in North Macedonia. The chapter identifies legislative bariers to and gaps in these workers' access to social protection. On the basis of the analysed data, the chapter argues that while the self-employed enjoy the same access to social protection as salaried workers (with the exception of unemployment insurance), these rights are not easily translated into practice. In addition, it provides evidence for misuse of temporary contracts. The chapter elaborates evidence-based recommendations for enhancing the comprehensive access to the social protection system in North Macedonia.
