Abstract: The research paper analyses the role of local media in provoking of the Rwanda genocide in 1994 and the legal consequences that followed, namely the prosecution by the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda (ICTR) of three individuals that masterminded the hate media campaign that played significant tole in the incitement of the Hutu population to murder the Tutsi population in the so called "Media Case". The focus of the research is on the impact of the "Media Case" on the development of international criminal responsibility for core crimes in international criminal law, specifically for the crimes against humanity in the contemporary globalized world characterized by rapid and decentralized development of new media and faced with disastrous conflicts that involve mass human suffering.
