dc.description.abstractThe paper explores the impact of mentoring on developing trainee teacher competences as well as on the process of their socialization in the professional community and on trainee teachers’ personal development. The analysis of the reasons for the rise of teacher mentoring programs in the world is followed by a review of research on the characteristics of good mentoring programs. Finally, the results of a study carried out at the English Department, Blazhe Koneski Faculty of Philology in Skopje are presented. The aim of the study is to investigate the role of mentoring in enhancing trainee teacher competences. In addition, the benefits of mentoring for the schools participating in the mentoring program are discussed as well as trainee teachers’ and mentors’ perceptions of the characteristics of good mentors.en_US
